Was out having my coffee in the screen room and noticed the mourning doves flying in and out of the murray cypress trees in my yard. I think they are building a nest. It is that time of the year. I love the subtle sound they make, it is so relaxing to hear.
I have mentioned the backyard birds many times, and will again. It is something I really enjoy. There are many pairs of birds looking for places to build nests right now. It is so cool to watch the process.
I wish I could see the dove nest, but not without a ladder. And that is out of the question right now with my knees. So I will just sit back and watch and hopefully will see more soon.
Snapped this photo of the mourning doves on my deck. The couple had just eaten sunflower seeds. Then they flew off to the trees.
Enjoying the weather in your world? Any birds in your yard? Do you ever find nest or babies?

Wonderful photograph, and they look like nice birds. We were enjoying the weather, but now it is supposed to be wet the next 4 days or so.

You are so lucky to get those birds. In our cities we don't see birds anymore except for some pigeons who visit us.
I miss their chirping which we had a few years back.
We had a pigeon nest last year and those two young birds flew away. I made a few discussions about them with their pics at different stages.
Why are they called mourning doves??

@CarolDM Thanks for your detailed information. They look so calm and cheerful. So I felt that the name is a misfit.
It must have been a wonderful experience watching them. I love bird watching but then I have to step out of our city for that.

Thank you, I have been watching them all morning going in and out of the trees where I think they are building a nest. So cool to watch and to hear them. I love their sound. I have always heard the name comes from the sound they make, it is a low subtle sound like they are in mourning. But I have also read that besides their sorrowful song it is also a message of life, hope, renewal and peace.

We have a few of them here too. The nests are usually very well hid.
The weather is a little warmer but still not nice here.

Sunny today, but can't go out today. Lily is supposed to try out a calming stuff and I don't want her to be outside. I have a bird feeder, but I think squirrels are getting in it. I'm going to something that will repeal the squirrels so I can have birds again.

I used to love the sound of the mourning doves and cicadas on a hot summer afternoon. Those sounds were relaxing and almost put me to sleep. Our weather has been up and down...typical of March.

They are lovely. I have never seen any. The sun is back for us again and the days mild.

We had a bunch of little green eyes in the bird bath this morning. They are one group that don't mind all hopping in together to have their bath.

Those birds are so beautiful to watch; it is good there are still lots of different birds there. I also put some bird seeds and water at my backyard and see if the birds will notice it. I hope so.

I could identify with the joy, and peaceful feeling you are experiencing with nature. You've captured the doves' moment of 'wonderment and praising of their Maker' at the right time.

What a beautiful site that must be! We get birds and have found nests from time to time!
