The Pink Elephant

Yesterday I posted about the two rolls of quilt batting that my sister and I separated. It's about 48 hours since we released all of the pressure on one roll of batting and a lot of the pressure on the other. The bag of batting in the back of my van is the size of the original package. That restricts its ability to expand. Meanwhile.....every time we look at it......the pink elephant in the living room seems to have a grown a bit larger. We are both wondering how we will store these mammoth rolls of batting....and when they will stop growing. Stay tuned!

I'm not sure it's patience so much as an inability to sit and do nothing. I quilt while having my morning coffee.....I quilt while watching television.....I quilt while listening to a book.....

I hope you got a great deal on it, and that you are able to use it all up.

We got a great deal on it. There should be enough to make at least 24 full size quilts..... When I buy it by the piece (precut) I pay about $20.00 per quilt for comparable batting. I would only be able to buy 7 quilt batts.....and I've gone through 12 in the last year.

@norcal finding old comforters that I would be willing to use doesn't sound like much of an option. Most would t be big enough....and then there is the quality. I have used fleece blankets in smaller quilts to save money.

@Morleyhunt I'm such a cheapskate. I often take apart an old comforter to reuse the batting.

Be careful, you could wake up in the morning and the whole room is filled with it.

@Morleyhunt I can figure you pushed by the big bag that "exploded" taking all the space inside the van.

I'm just hoping the bag in the van doesn't burst before we can bring it home to New Brunswick. Imagine driving when quilt batting is pushing at your seat.

Quilting is one thing I wished I had learned.

I'm a self taught quilter. I'm always learning and improving, I didn't really find it difficult.

The other day I took my daughters to a science fair. One of the displays was about pressure and vacuum, and as part of that they had a pop bottle filled with little marshmallows with one of those pumps that you are supposed to use to pressurise fizzy drinks and stop them going flat. As you pumped up the air in the bottle the marshmallows were compressed, then when you released the pressure the marshmallows puffed out again. It reminds me of that!

We are hopping to use the vacuum to suck some of the air out of the bag to tame the monster.

@Morleyhunt So now that you know how big it is, will it be enough for more than one quilt?

@Fleura Over the teo bags there is enough for at least 24 large quilts.

That's what I'm wondering. You might have to knock together some quilts really quickly just to get rid of some of it.
