Notre Dame is ablaze.

Norte Dame is on fire - the Parisian cathedral that is, not the American university. This is an awful state of affairs because in exactly one month from today I am expecting to be sitting with a friend in Berthillon’s Salon de Thé just a matter of metres from the back end of the cathedral, right beside the river. Woe is me. They have a month to get this fixed. Notre-Dame cathedral: Firefighters tackle blaze in Paris
A major operation is under way to tackle the blaze at the 850-year-old Gothic building.

Let's hope that this is an accident and not a terrorist attack. That would be even more horrible.

The latest suggests that the cause may be to do with renovation work being carried out.

@owlwings That would be sad, of course, but at least not as horrible as a terrorist attack.

We'll be there in a matter of weeks too. Our apartment (for two nights) is only a few hundred metres away.

@xFiacre I'll hope that your response was tongue in cheek. I was referring to Notre Dame, not your need for tea,

Two-thirds of the roof and the spire have been destroyed, you are lucky if the debris will be removed before you go there.

What a waste. I am glad I have visited that cathedral a few years ago. It was awesome. I hope it is not a terrorist attack.

I heard about that on the radio. I hope it is not arson. I guess the news will have some information on it tonight.

This is appalling! I see that Trump has bizarrely suggested they use flying water tankers to put out the flames!

Yeah I was just watching it burn on Twitter. It's heartbreaking to watch history and art being burned. They are saying that the infrastructure of the Cathedral was bad due to old age and needed repairing. That might be the cause of it. I hope there are no casualties.

I am sure the cathedral is not going to be repaired in 30 days time. The Eiffel Tower is definitely a good alternative.
