Good Friday

It's holiday here in the Philippines yesterday , Maundy Thursday and now Good Friday, as.part of the commemoration of the Holy Week. In two more hours here will be the procession of carriages of the Saints and the events that are related to the sufferings of Jesus. I know we are of different religious affiliations here so there are some who don't practice the so called Holy Week. Anyway, if you do, do you participate in the procession or just a watcher of the procession? I don't participate anymore in the procession. My knees are with osteoarthritis already that is why.

The procession is this evening, a man will wear a cross through the village and stop at the 14 stations of the "Via Crucis" (Way of Cross). I do not believe we go, my husband does not feel very well today.

@SIMPLYD No, no carriages at all, people follow the man dressed like Jesus and bringing the cross.

As far as I know there are no processions in my area. I've been in Spain when they have had them though, and they are lovely to watch.

@jaboUK They bring the same one each year on Good Friday. Actually, a family has it carefully lain in one room , and they have it decorated for the Holy week specially for the procession of carriages with specific images related to the sorrowful events in the life of Jesus by other families too.

@SIMPLYD I thought that might be the case - it looks too good to be discarded when the parade is over.

@SIMPLYD That's very elaborate. Is it built especially for this year or do they bring the same one out every year?

It's holiday here too because of Good Friday. I follow different religion but have seen the procession in a church very close to my house. My Christian friend visits church but I have not seen her family ever participating in it.

I think your friend has a Catholic affiliation but his family is of a different religion and don't practice and believe in those.

Yes, it is a recollection and the procession a reenactment of the sorrowful events in Jesus' life until he was crucified. I have posted some pictures of the beautiful carriages of images that a friend took during the procession.

@SIMPLYD Thank you for sharing the image. It is very beautiful and expresses something about Jesus in a wonderful way. Thank you. I've seen images from other sources around the world that are not very nice in my view of that event. Even some images around churches give me the creeps depending on what time period from history they are coming from or the message they are trying to send. They should keep doing this procession!! Beautiful.

@SIMPLYD Christianity itself is divided into 2; Catholics and Protestants, if we call it Christian, it means entering the Catholic category, I don't know the difference.

Oh, 5. We also have even more. They each have their own practices and beliefs. This tradition is of the Roman Catholic.

I'm a heathen LOL, Sorry not a believer but I know of Holy week and Good Friday. I don't think they do a procession around here but many people do go to evening mass at their church. I have heard of some that even go Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
