Carry On Or Can You?

This discussion is inspired by @snowy22315 about can you leave it all behind? Because this as a comment would be a book. I have a friend, I met when I was into extreme coupon`ing, she sold everything she owned except a suit case filled with clothes and moved to France. When she tired of living there she came back to Atlanta where her family lives, met her husband and did another "sell it and move" all the way to Minnesota. Her reasons I did not ask, but it seemed clear it was to get away from people. At the time I had just did the same thing, for the second time, so I could relate, we are still online friends. The first time I did plan a little and sold my car and furniture but I was just a kid (1980`s), newly married and I moved with him to Tennessee. It took me about a year of that place to move back to Alabama. The next time was back in 2009, I packed a bag and just left, but this time I did have a regular pay coming in, the rentals. I lived in Florida and Georgia, not long but I enjoyed both places. After that I settled for a couple years by the river where I did know people in that area, even the police, that is when I knew I had to deal with the old home place so I did take only enough to live with, back to minimal! I love it! This was an excellent place to have yard sales. I sold everything that I owned while living there but still have plenty to be comfortable. Its been several years now, I moved where I am now, I knew no one! But I was happy about it, no visitors and its in the woods just enough I can go outside in my t-shirt and panties if I want, and no one will see me. Private! Its time for me to move again, its no longer private. I have been looking for about a year, maybe longer, but no one knew I was. I am looking for smaller but with enough room for the dogs to also be happy and a long ways from this place. Not that I don`t like it here, its okay, its just not going to work from now till death do we part, know what I mean? That is why I made a couple good resolutions, get rid of half and cut spending by half, its all about my next adventure. So yes I can and yes I will. Move and leave it all behind me. No matter how old I am.

Yes, I know what you mean. Looking for a place isn't easy. But it is an adventure that is for sure.

I am still thinking about moving someplace warmer. But I have a love hate relationship with moving. I have things set up here that work well and would hate to start setting everything up again. But at the same time I enjoy doing it.

@andriaperry The goats and chickens could be sold. Except for Billy. But if I found a hauler for the horses I could probably include the goats easily. I need to win about 150 thousand. Then buying a place and moving would be easy.

I moved a lot growing up in the military, but my husband and I have lived in this house for about 35 years. I like to travel some, but have absolutely no desire to move. I know wherever you go, Angie, it will be what's right for you.

Yes it will, I am thinking I will have a home base, somewhere to come back to, if I chose a coastal home.

@andriaperry When I was a kid, we moved every year. As an adult, I had lived in the same house for over 20 years, and in the same town for 35 years. It's different here, but I like it.

I have moved a lot in my life to different countries and different places. So I have done it many times... Leaving behind things and moving on with the bare minimum.

I did not get rid of enough when I moved, but it is okay. I only moved an hour away, but we could have made other choices. I wish I was about fifteen years younger. I know if something happened to Bob I would likely move again.

I have moved to different areas within the state and also PA..but would like to try living in a different area of the country. I do want to try living in Richmond though..I do love that city..maybe it will be an interim step. It isn't too far from friends and family either.

@andriaperry Coastal NC and SC are nice. The gulf side is too hot for me, but maybe you would like it.

Good choice. I am thinking about the coast, either one area of the gulf or one area of the Atlantic, those 2 places are calling me, I do not know why. I like both.

I have already lived in three different countries. I was saying yesterday to my husband that we should get rid of plenty of thing, just to get ready should we decide to move again. We have no roots after all.

I moved a few times due to marriage or divorce. My divorce seven years ago was pretty major and I just wanted out so sold and gave away so much all I had left went into a 34 ft travel trailer and it was just the basics. I moved back to the city where my job was so the commute was less. I actually lived out in a farm area where there were no houses and just a few trailers. It was quiet and very secure. I did that for a year but the trailer kept having issues and knowing I was trying to get transferred out of state, I rented an apartment for what I thought would be a year but it wound up two. Then my daughter and son bought in Oregon and I moved up too. It was travel back and forth to CA for a year until I was able to get my telework in place and work out of the Salem office I commuted to once a week. We are in the timbers far away from people. My little cabin was to be done but so much has come up but it should be soon. That is my last move or so I think. It's here on the property so it's not like moving far away.

@andriaperry There are so many projects here. My son-in-law from MS came out to help my son-in-law here and they've been going 16 hours a day to finish another project. My floor might get in next week if my youngest daughter doesn't go into labor.

Dunno, I'm quite rooted. Maybe I could do it, but it would be very hard and emotional . Or not, never done it so I can't be sure .

I have moved many times but always around family. Now that family is gone and we have talked about moving but I am not alone now, makes things a lot different. It is a huge thing ti take on but being independent as you are, you will always survive, no matter what. I believe that. Tony will come too right?

Now that I'm older, I think about living with the bare minimum quite often. If we had to move to assisted living, there's a ton of stuff that would have to be gotten rid of. I give about 6-12 boxes of stuff away each year to Goodwill; but I'm just scratching the surface. I have a ton of picture albums, etc., that would have to go; and that would be rough.
