I've Seen Better Days

Though I may be young at heart, the knowledge I don't shirk that all my bits and pieces hurt, and those that don't, don't work. I have some trouble with my ears my legs and hips and eyes, to get up from the sofa now will take me several tries. Sometimes when I'm on the stairs I'll pause in puzzlement, so was I going up or down? not sure of my intent. Now I would need a ouija board to get in touch with friends, and if I should exert myself my BP just ascends. And if perchance I take a nap they worry that I'm dead, but if I'm lucky I'll wake up before Last Rites are read. And now it takes me twice as long to look just half as good, it's sad that I can't do the splits but hey - I never could. I'm not yet in 'God's waiting room' well, not quite anyway, so I can see my flowers bloom and still have time to play. Though you may think I'm in the queue to pass that pearly gate, I'm not yet ready to go through St. Peter - he can wait! Photo is of my own flowers.

We go on many adventures, but I don't intend to venture through the pearly gates anytime soon . Great poem! I love this arrangement of colorful flowers!

They look like petunias to me. Right? Most of what you have in that beautiful poem I am going through myself (lol)

The mauvey coloured ones are petunias, but there are also lobelia, begonias and busy lizzies. This is a basket from last year, I haven't even started planting for this year yet. As far as the poem goes, yes old age will come to us all (provided we are lucky enough to live that long)

That's another beautiful photo, you really have a great eye for planting complimenting flowers together. I enjoyed the poem as well, it had me laughing, and wondering how much of this will I have to look forward to?

@jaboUK No, you wouldn't exaggerate to me. I did find the poem so cute, but I know you and I know how you like to joke and kid. Turning 80 IS a big deal. Here, in Canada, you have to start retaking your driving tests at that age.

@Juliaacv I think they should do that here. When we get to 70 we have to apply for our licence by filling in a questionnaire. You don't have to get a doctor to certify that you're fit to drive, you just tick all the boxes yourself. Fortunately there's nothing wrong with me, but I know older people who really shouldn't be driving. We have to do this every 3 years, but what's the point? We should either have to get a medical certificate saying we're fit to drive, or use your system and have to retake the test.

I have to admit that I have exaggerated a little Julia. Some of it's true though and more will probably become true as time goes on. I will be 80 this year so I'm not doing too badly. Thanks for liking my flowers.

What a great way to express your feelings. We all have some of these things going on. As long as you can continue to write, I will read. And enjoy those flowers my friend.

Lovely flowers that never fail to inspire. Hope and reality clash with every passing day. Dear Jabo, this poem shows you are getting younger and your mind is as sharp as ever. As long as our enthusiasm does not wane and one is able to laugh at ourselves, we are doing well. I am also, sort of, at the end of the tether as those younger than I stare from obituary pages increasingly! siva

@lovinangelsinstead21 Oh yes, anything in my garden is planted and nurtured by me.. I design all my own baskets, though 'design' is perhaps too strong a word. Basically i just bung in what I think will grow well together and hope for the best.

Wow, I thought I was reading about myself! haha A friend once asked me if I spent any time thinking about the hereafter. I replied that I thought about the hereafter all the time. In fact, every time I walk into a room, I ask myself, "What is it again that I'm here after?"

The one thing that's not getting away from you Janet is your talent in rhyme. Am very glad to see you around :) I just finished about an hour of cutting the blue grass and yes - there's some ache in the back but it's gone as soon as I've straightened up and walked a few meters :)
