Just A Fruit Tray!

Our family gathered on Friday afternoon (without us) for our annual Easter meal. With hubby and I living a thousand miles away we decided we weren't ready to make the trip for just a weekend. (We are going for about 10 days in June.) In order to participate in a small way I decided to order a fruit tray, that my eldest daughter would pick up and bring with her to the gathering. Who knew that ordering a fruit tray could prove to be so difficult. I called the store and explained what I wanted....I told them I didn't want a tray filled with melon. They told me they couldn't do that because that would make the tray too expensive for them to make.....I suggested that I pay extra. No they couldn't do that! Grrrr..,,I'm getting frustrated. I to,d the customer service rep that I would make the tray myself but distance made that impossible. Then he asked how I was paying...I told him credit card....he told me they could not accept a credit card over the phone and I would need to order the tray online! Now I'm online, selecting a tray. It only took me a minute to find the fruit tray I was looking for. A tropical fruit tray (no melon) that was eye catching and large enough for our family. It was ordered and paid for. I contacted my daughter and let her know when it could be picked up. Fast forward to Thursday morning. The store calls me.....we don't have the fruit you requested for the tray......(here we go again)....can we substitute melon for some of the fruit? I explained, many of our family members did not like melon so I had deliberately ordered a tray with NO melon. The woman told me she would fill my request and it would be a beautiful fruit tray. I asked my daughter to send me a photo of the tray when she picked it up.....by now I was really curious what I would receive. The photo was sent.....no melon on the tray.

Most of my favourite fruits are there in the tray. Hope those straw berries did not turn out sour

The tray of fruit looks yummy. Hard to believe that you had such a difficult time in ordering exactly what you wanted. You would think the vendor would want to get it just the way you requested without hassle.

The young man I spoke to first was so bent on "rules" he seemed to miss out on the fact that the store provided a "service" and I was more than ready to pay a little extra for a slevial request.

@Morleyhunt I worked for a store that was clearly happy to make whatever the buyer wanted. I saw some pretty unique cheese, fruit, and meat platters leave that store.

@ElusiveButterfly I think the man I spoke to initially was a cookie cutter....everything is supposed to be uniform and the same.

@Morleyhunt I can understand that I love melon but at the moment its quite raw in the middle of it and so I give it a miss for now. I love blackberries and bilberries.

When you aren't fond of melon....fruit trays can be a minefield. This tray looked (and apparently) tasted awesome.

I'm glad it was as good as it looks @Morleyhunt I like shopping online but I usually only get pantry items, I'll have to see if I can get fresh produce somehow.

Even without the melon it looks so appetizingly delicious. I know they are all so delicious to eat, not to mention that it is healthy. Although for diabetics, they should be eaten with control.

Too much of anything isn't healthy, but the fruit is a much better option than a lot of sugary desserts.

@Morleyhunt Yes, that is true. However, for the diabetics, they can only eat one or a half of the sweet fruits.

It looks like something home made, I love it. I don't like melon either, and so much of any store-bought tray is typically full of melon pieces, and they usually do not get eaten. What did you bring to the potluck that you and your hubby were planning on attending?

@Morleyhunt They both sound delicious. My favorite kind of pie is rhubarb custard.

The woman who put the tray together was accommodating as soon as she found out what I required....it was the young man I initially tried to order through who just didn't want to help me.

I told the woma, politely, that I had ordered that particular fruit tray because it didn't have melon. She was very understanding, and told me she would put together a beautiful tray without melon....I was skeptical until I received the photo.
