I'm looking for book recommendations...

can you recommend any good books? I love to buy books for christmas gifts, since many of my family and friends are avid readers. Unfortunately I haven't had nearly as much time as I'd like to read this year (other than college texts) and not enough time to browse the bookstores for good books. Can you point me in the right direction?

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
A Home at the End of the World by Michael Cunningham
Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs
Those were 4 of the best I read last year.

Thank you for the recommendations! I often buy books as gifts for the holidays, birthdays and other occasions and I'm always looking for recommendations from others. I haven't had as much time to read for pleasure since I started college so I've been relying on reviews and recommendations from others.

I wouldn't give the 2nd two books to young people... they are really well written - one of them is a memoir... but they contain mature themes.
