If your kids are old enough to help out with expenses around the house, do they do it willingly or do the complain about their money?

Do you mean like the mortgage or rent and utilities or buying their own clothes and stuff? I think if the family is in trouble, like Dad or Mom lost their job and there is a need for help with basic living expenses, then yes a kid should help. Everyone should contribute what they can. Also if the family lives in a area of the world were everyone must work so they can survive then heck yeah. In our family, once you get a job then you buy ~all~ of your own extras - i.e. clothes, entertainment, etc. The teenager that lives here pays for him or herself. But of course, every family is different! :)

Well, fortunately we don’t have a mortgage, what we have we own outright. What I mean is that in our family, there is no such thing as My Money and Your Money. There is only Our Money. Everybody contributes to the household. We have found that this works better. And since you were the first one to respond and in such detail, I will give you a “+” and to top it off a “BR”. Thanks for your response
