I always check on my 10 and 13 year old children before I go to bed. Sometimes they wake up. It can be fun because they might talk in their sleep, or they will talk to me and say silly stuff and I will ask them the next day if the remember the conversation. They usually don't. I tell my husband he doesn't know what he is missing by not checking on them. Sometimes when they do wake up they look up at me and then raise their arms up in the air for a hug. It's a wonderful feeling. If I go to bed and I realize I have forgotten to check on the girls, I will get back up and check on them. It's just something I have done since they were born and will probably never stop doing. I have been known to find one of them hanging upside down off the bed or something weird like falling asleep with a Santa hat on. Then I get a camera and take a picture!!!

LOL, yeah mine talk in their sleep too, both of my daughters actually sleep with their eyes partially open sometimes. This can be creepy as i am not sure if they are sleeping or not so i have to wave my hand in front of theor face to see if they are asleep. I will always check on them too, i know i will.

I slept in between my 7 and 2 year old son and constantly check them at night, especially if they've got fever or not feeling well.

My daughter will be 8 this weekend and she sleeps with me when my husband is at work. I wake up several times to check on her. Even more when she sleeps in her room. She has asthma really bad and has stopped breathing a few times. So I am really parinoid about it.

My kids are almost 5 and 2. I don't check on them anymore. I used to, but then my son would start waking up when I went into his room. That started it's own battle! If one of them wakes in the night and I have to go upstairs with them anyways, I will check on the other to make sure they didn't get woke up. But I don't do it regularly anymore.

I did when my kids were little and with my youngest it was actually necessary becaues of his health problems but now that my older two are 13 and 11 I dont check on them unless I'm having one of my mental episodes or if I hear them whimpering/crying in their sleep from nightmares

Oh i know what you mean, i could hardly sleep when i first brought them home from the hospital, i really didnt begin to breath any easier until they were a year old and then the risk of SIDS was gone, however i still have to check on them, my mom always told me "once you have kids you never sleep again", boy was she right, lol, but i wouldn't trade them for the world!!

My children are 17 , 11 and 5....I don't check on my 17 year old anymore... he he he... however I do still check on my 11 year old....He is such a noisy sleeper and when i don't hear it.. I just have to check... My five year old still sleeps in the same room as me.... ugh!....will it ever end....I can say this but can guarantee that when she does start sleeping in her own room I will constantly be checking on her.. I think it is perfectly normal for a parent to continue to check on their children at night...it shows that you are a caring parent...

Yeah i agree, it does show how much we love them, and i think when my kids are 17 i still wont be sleeping because instead of getting up to see if they are breathing i will be staying up to see where they have been, lol!!!

Yes I do the same thing. My child is 2 yrs old and I wake up all the time during the night just to look at him or listen to his chest and make sure he is still breathing.

I love it!! Yes, I do. & my little girl who is 15 months old also sleeps in the same room as us-- but, in our bed! It makes me happy to know that other people do it too, because lots of people I talk to--think I'm absolutely crazy for doing this. But, I am constantly checking on her to make sure she is okay--it's peace of mind for me to do this.
