is yoga is just a physical excerice to keep you fit or a form of meditation to keep your body and mind in good shape

Yoga is best form of meditation and exercise. You won't find better exercise posture other than Yoga. It relaxes the body and the mind. It gives you more concentration power.

its both because when your a beginner it will kill you at first until you have got used to the moves then it will become more of a meditation and relaxation exercise.

It's both. Believing positive can have good mental effects on the brain so if you are confident this activity will boost your wellbeing it more than likely will. However it is also a good form of exercise, it's not vigorious but it will improve agility and flexability.
