is yoga is just a physical excerice to keep you fit or a form of meditation to keep your body and mind in good shape

It's both. Believing positive can have good mental effects on the brain so if you are confident this activity will boost your wellbeing it more than likely will. However it is also a good form of exercise, it's not vigorious but it will improve agility and flexability.
