Napoli is still very dangerous. Is it the maffia? Or why is it so different like North Italy?

I live in Rome, and generally all the people says that South of Italy is more dangerous than North. I have travelled a lot in North Italy and I can say that it's very dangerous. One day I stayed in Milano, in the central railway station, and I have found my bag opened. Luckly there were only the tickets and I have found it (I have my money in my pants). So I can say that South Itay is dangerous but there isn't a lot of difference with North.

Italy is dangerous? Yes. Napoli is dangerous? Yes. Please tell me a place in the world that is not dangerous. I have been a month ago in South Africa (Cape Town) and my friends over there told me that SA is one of the most dangerous place in the world and it's a risk walk around also in the center of the city. Have you been in London in the last few month? Don't think that also London can be really dangerous? I think that the world is becoming dangerous but we cannot stop to travel.

never been ti Italy... but i think there are bad people in every part of the world.. I come from India...India is a beautiful place with nice and warm people but there still is crime..violent crime. I believe it is not correct to mark a region as a whole as a bad region or good region purely on the basis of statistics ( which is reported, a lot goes on without being reported to police or administration)......

I'm glad to see there's still people who knows how a place can be marked just because of a minority which ruins its name. Try to watch to the positive sides of a place before you talk about the negatives ones.

People coming from south of Italy have a different attitude than North Italy. I mean, often it seems that they think "this the law, it is good, but even if i don't respect it it won't be a problem". This happens in the north, too, but less. Napoleon (if i am not wrong) used to say "rule italians is not difficult; just useless". There are millions of reasons, but the result is: in many areas of South Italy there is no more law. Consider for instance wearing a helmet when you ride a motorbike. In some parts of neaples there are people who kill you just because of that; that's because if you enter in a gang's area in a motorbike with a helmet on your head you can be taken for a killer sent by an enemy gang. Living in napoli is difficult, unemployment is sky-high and many people are poor, so the choose illegality, it can be camorra (mafia is in sicily, camorra in napoli and campania, the region where napoli is) or your own clan. but do not make confusion between camorra (or mafia) and a simple gang, like the one you see in bronx in films. camorra has people that do the "dirty job" for them, of course, but they are just cannon fodder. These organization have experts, people with Ph.D. and masters, IT specialist, great lawyers...they trade with china, india, south america and so on, the use the latest technologies...they are multinational

I was in Naples a few years ago and I knew before I went about the reputation Naples has for crime. However, I wouldn't say that there is more of a risk to tourists than in, say, New York or London or South Africa. I think that with the Camorra running the city it's a case of crimes being gang-related - they only really target each other. Of course, tourists should be careful in any city, lock valuables in the hotel safe and take out only what money you need. Don't wear expensive jewellery or flash expensive cellphones around. Common sense really

My driver collegues has another opinion about it. I work in the international transportation, and I can say all the people who works in international transportation has the same information about south Italy, I mean all the disponents, spediteurs, and transporters in Europe.

I think it is dangerous because there are less work in the south, so the level of crime is higher. I am not italian, and I forgot what maffia means....I knew...

If you take the good precautions no one will steal you anything in front of the parking of a big company...did they care to close the trucks? There's a lot of people that don'y care to take precautions, it's obvious that someone will steal, thieves are everywhere...

The trucks and the trailers were braked open. Once my friend was sleeping in the truck when they wanted to rob him. But as I said it was not only once. Regularly. In the south. Nowadays we do not accept shipments to south Italy, because the danger can not been paid.

rose - rose
To park in front of a Big company is not dangerous everywhere in the world. I dispo my trucks all around Europe. South Italy is not the Only dangerous place. I have similar experience with Lille (F), Belgium, Dover (GB) - Nearly whole Great Brittain,) Marseilles (FR). I LOVE ITALY! My heart is for Italy, but I can not forgive.

Now do you think you are so smart now that you said a lot of rubbish on a place where probably you've never been to? Napoli is probably the most beautiful town in the world, and, yes, there's some criminality, like in every other part of the world, but there is a lot of good, honest, people, which is always prejudicted for the bad attitudes of some citizens. NORTHERN ITALY is better? Why do everyone think that junk? Just 'cause someone else who heard it from someone else, who heard it from someone else said it to you? I'm neapolitan, and proud to be! I always lived in peace in my town...we have some problems, but who doesn't? Now I live in Trento, in northern italy, and here I can see the same criminality, if not more. The only one problem is that south is MARKED, and when something happens in the north nobody knows...if something happens in the south, all the world will know! And stop always talking about camorra, mafia, and all that kind of rubbish things....you really don't know what you're talking about, thrust in me.
