FYI: When a robber forces you to withraw cash from the ATM machine..

Philippines
November 30, 2006 8:38pm CST
If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your PIN number in reverse order. For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine. The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you. This information was recently broadcast on TV and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists. Please pass this along to everyone possible.

I also received this forwarded email and this is not true. the PIN number is your password to your $$$$, so it would be really awkward if you input your PIN backwards, therefore this would not match the PIN you got.

I actually havent tried this but if this is real, I could say that its a very nice tactic. We all know that robbers are always looking up for victims and it would be helpful for us if the feature is actually true.

http://www.snopes.com/business/bank/pinalert.asp As exciting as that prospect is, sadly it's false. Check the url above, it's the snopes website where they investigate these kinds of things to find out if it's truth or urban legend. You'll find all the facts there about these kinds of emails.

I think even if this panic code comes true, it could only counter for those ignorant robber. Coz by that time, everybody knows it as a common fact & the robber will still force you to the same thing & get away before the cop could reach in time. I mean, it's just not an effective solution for ATM robbery. It would be making more sense to install more security cam in ATM area or hired security to guard the place.

Well, sadly.. I hope that there's such a way that we can notify the police about this kind of emergency. And! That they will respond immediately.

I don't think that's true. I am working at a bank and I don't know that that's the thing to allert the police. The atm's will not give you the money becaurse the code is falls. The best thing you can do is to do what the robber is asking you. This way they won't hurt you to much and you get your money back becaurse off the film they make at the ATM's.

I don't think this is true. I reverse my pin all the time because I forget it. I never seen any flashing lights coming to my error. Can you provide a link to justify this?

May be i will enter a right pin and give him access to withdraw money because i think nothing is more than life.. we can earn a lot of money if we have a life and i cant trust on the robbers because we cant trust on them. They can kill us and i think nothing is precious than life. what do think so?

. I guess this is a usual hoax mail you receive now and then, because imagine if my pin number is 6556 and how do I report it to the police???!!! Yes, this is a hoax call and it was confirmed by a newspaper article in our place last week. This has been circulating over the email for long time and should be stopped. The hoaxes like these should be stopped.
