Spoof EMAIL from EBAY

Singapore
December 1, 2006 2:10am CST
I have been with Ebay for several years, normally, I buy things off ebay for scrapbooking stuff and rubber stamps for my hobbies. I did receive an email from ebay requesting to sign on from my mail. Thinking that it could be a spoof email, I deleted. However, something strange happened 2 days ago. I received email from ebay telling me that they have suspended my account as I was listing items that were against their policies. Not only am I fed-up for receiving such emails from ebay, but after responding to them requesting for them to double check as I never received any bids confirmation emails (since they mentioned that all bids are cancelled), but no response from ebay at all! I just find that even as a customer, I have totally no right to even request for further investigation. Or maybe, they really made a mistake and are not able to admit to it. Anyone encountered similar experience from ebay? So, for ebay users, just be careful when you receive some strange emails asking you to verify your username and password.

the big problem with the internet is that as soon as something starts to work you get someone trying to scam its users. Unfortunatly its the way of the world, low lifes who can never make money honestly will make it dishonestly by gulling the gullable one thing always to keep in mind with everything is this, if something is too good its too good to be true. Also iot really truly is impossible to scam a honest person

You ever have any experience with Ebay before? there is no customer support at all. After writing several emails to them, there is never a response. When I received the spoof email, I informed them, why are they doing such a thing? Is that required from members? NOTHING....i think it's really just virtual and there is no one helping the members out.

I am always using ebay both selling and buying and have always got great customer support. All I have done is emailed them with my problem and always got a quick and fast and usually very helpful response. I am sorry that you have had problems.

You know that happened to me, they suspended my account and I though it was spoof also, so the next time I tried bidding it won't let me then I went to a chat with someone and they restored it, someone had gotten into my account and was using it, I had to change my personal info and I was able to use it again, I was so upset. Then I keep getting emails from paypal but I know they are all spoof. I report all of them to paypal.

I am a seller and a buyer on ebay. I recently had a scammer tying to scam me on ebay. I didn't fall for it. I contacted ebay customer service and they responded back to me. I have also previously recieved phony emails from ebay. I sent them to ebay and they emailed me back and said it was not from them. If you get an email from ebay, if it is a real email from them, it will also be in your messages in ebay. Do not ever log into ebay from an email, the same way with paypal. Always go diectly to the site on your own.

I know how frustrating that can be and that is why I no longer deal with ebay. It seems like when they should be investigating things they don't and when there is nothing to worry about they panic. In my experience ebay thinks it is to the "guilty until proven innocent" route and then make it almost impossible to prove your innocence. I don't know what to say that hasn't been said before but they make it extremely hard for legit business people to start with them and have a nasty habit of kicking off loyal users for the slightest thing be it real or imagined.

Well...i only use ebay to find my hobby supplies....and you know what, during this time when I could not get in, I found an online merchant that offers pretty good prices for my stuff, and I am starting to purchase it from them instead. Although I must also say that there are real great sellers out there at ebay. Too bad I can't go back to my favourite seller again after years of transactions.

The problem with e-Bay.... I have received a couple of "Funny looking" mails purporting to be from e-Bay I am getting the "Knack" now of how to spot them. If you go into e-bay and then find the place where you can report "Spoof" mail, copy this address, go back into the "Fake mail" and forward this on to e-Bay, you WILL get a response from them. I have done this at least twice and it has worked for me

Hi, always be careful because sites like Ebay, PayPal or E-Gold will never send you a mail asking to signup or to give your ID and password.

I'd say keep emailing them, i mean, you have been with them for a good few years and they do owe you a proper investigation!

yes...I will give them some time...managed to speak to someone on the live help...luckily, managed to resolved a few things and the security side also confirmed that it was a 3rd party unauthorised use.

Lol I get those emails too, but since I have multiple email accounts, I use one for sign ups and stuff, and I never signed up with ebay with that email, so I just ignore them.

Funny that you mention this, I have had two emails from this guy(the mail is supposed to be coming through ebay), demanding that I send his money back for something he bought off of me. Well the thing is I never sold such a thing, and haven't sold anything on ebay. For the heck of it I decided to go to the site and my Norton fraud monitoring came up and told me that the site was bogus. I let Norton do their thing with it. If you know that you didn't have any dealings with such a person, just ignore those emails. You could also check your account with ebay and see where your standing is with them to date.

well everybody receives this sort of mails supposedly from ebay, but they are actually not from them, this is called phishing and you may report this to ebay. I dnt know what action they might take but one should not be gullible enough to sign in to some spoof site and give away your password to the culprit. ebay says that it never asks people to sign in from their email. i dont know what d problem with your bid confirmation stuff is but please beware of phishing

You can call California Consumer Complaint dept. at 1-800-952-5210 since their headquarters are in San Jose. Maybe they can help you or at least give you the phone number to call Ebay directly.

i get those a lot but its not ebay sending them. If i do get an email like that you can tell if it is from them by placing your courser over the link and look at the bottom left. If it doesnt have ebay then you know its a spoof email. But to be safe I normally just close the email. Open a new browser and then type in the ebay address and then log in. I normally change my email passwords every so often. I have also seen that with pay pal citi bank and others. Becareful

ebay does not send emails. your message center contains messages from ebay. there are a lot of scams out there. there is one you will get in your email requesting updated information. do not do it. it is a scam trying to get your personal info. it is not ebay. ebay will never do that. if you are getting these emails you need to report them to ebay so they can track them. there is a place in their directory to report these things.
