Emergency Exit

How come people tell you not to stand in front of an emergency exit when if there was an emergency surely you would run through it?

that's exactly right mamistayfly, they surely would be running through it! besides, if there were a lot of people running towards you, no doubt you'd try to avoid be squashed or ran over by getting out of the way at the very least.
