Has anyone else noticed questons asking about pets names, town of birth , mothers maiden name and stuff like this? Sounds stupid questions, but they are the type of security questions banks use to verify ownership of accounts, could someone be collecting this information with a view to rob the unwary, or am i just being paranoid?

good of you that you brought it out, or else I would never have discovered that what these people are up to. even I was chauffeured considering these questions But now I realize that these are ways to collect confidential information. and it is quite likely that hackers may be able to use this information somewhere to exploit your accounts

I don't think you are paranoid, these days you have to be very careful what you put out on the net for others to see. But just someone on here asking what town you live in won't do much...they would also have to know what bank you use, or at least have a good bit more info in order to do something like that. But please continue to be paranoid, as I am extremely careful about my account info and just recently had to have my bank card replaced because someone got my info ( I STILL HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT WHERE!). So be careful, but I don't think answering a question like your pets name will be harmful.
