I like Avon better, usually I just get nail polish and jewelry from them, I don't wear a lot of make up.

That's why I like Avon, too, they have much more selection.

I haven't seen that product yet, but I do have rough hands and I like to keep them soft b/c I type and I don't paint my nails much but every once in a while it's a nice treat to do my nails and use creams.

I'd like to discuss this in another thread "Horror Stories of Mary Kay and Avon". You can respond here or in the other discussion, but you said that you'd never sell again and that Mary Kay had more forceful selling tactics. Have you ever had any big problems trying to sell (a difficult customer, etc), etc??? What are the biggest and worst problems of Mary Kay and Avon? We've discussed why we like these products, now I want to see the other side of it. Thanks for your input!!! :)

I sold Mary Kay for five years and I also sold Avon many years ago for a while. I like Mary Kay's products better, but I like some things that Avon has as well. For me, Mary Kay's skin care and makeup works better, but I like the variety that Avon offers. The Mary Kay makeup seems to stay on longer and my makeup still looks fresh after many hours. With Avon, I was always reapplying. I have Rosacea and Avon products irritated my skin, where Mary Kay products don't. Just because I like the products does not mean I approve of how the company works! I found that there Mary Kay is a lot more aggressive than Avon, as far as sales and recruiting tactics go. I will never sell again.

Gosh, that's a little like comparing Apples to Oranges, don't you think? Mary Kay is in the same league as Clinique, Estee Lauder and such. Avon is a whole different thing.

I don't think for even a SECOND that Mary Kay is in the same league as Clinique, Estee Lauder, and "such". Sorry but none of the homes that I've seen hosting Mary Kay parties are in a department store, the prices are the same (or close enough), but the products are not. And neither is Avon in the same league as Clinique, Estee Lauder, and "such". But in my opinion your comparison of "apples to oranges" in association with "Mary Kay and Avon" is a useless attempt to make a point - which is better, apples or oranges? When you break down the source, both have value. Apples have fiber, oranges have Vitamin C. One is not better than the other simply because of what it is. I guess maybe one costs more but aren't they both good for you, for their own individual reasons?

I sold avon and did not do well. the most commission i ever made was 10% and i usually ended up just buying stuff for myself. I like the non gaudy jewelry that avon had and agree that they have a wider selection of stuff, but they seem like they are becoming a little too diversified with the curves stuff, the bras, the vitamins--too amway-yish if you ask me. So i started with mary kay (but am not doing well with it--i'm liquidating my inventory) and i love love love their products way better than the anew products which are around the same price. You can not beat the acne gel from mary kay and as a consultant you recieve 50% off which means you make 1/2 of what you sell--much better than avon. you can also see my website www.marykay.com/pennycan2 and read on the career opportunites. If you work a full time job, have a child or enjoy your time to yourself, think long and hard before signing a commitment to anything. I bought into inventory (which is completely optional and they will tell you that) which i was convinced my business would not succeed without it and now i'm stuck will all this stuff over $3000 of debt and i'm liquidating everything. i want to remain a consultant so i can get my stuff at 50% off but i don't want to do parties, cold call or warm chatter any more. i feel like a preditor and i feel like people think i'm creapy. best of luck! let me know if you need any info on either company. Avon did me really dirty i have to say that. I was in Hurricane Katrina and some of our shipments were lost in transit. Avon said that they would credit me and not hold me responsible and then turned me in to a collection agency for $70.00!!!! I paid it to settle it but vowed i would never deal with them again! once trying to contact them even with copied email confirmation that they sent post hurricane that they said i would be credited, they said that the deliveries made it to the area and because of that (even though i still got no product) they could not re imburse me.

I haven't heard any horror stories about that with Avon, but I was discouraged with start up costs and having to buy books. I think most people now are internet-capable and would just order from the website anyway, instead of using an Avon representative.

my mom was an avon lady for a long time. I think that the internet is easily accessible but i also think that people associate avon with having a consultant so they rather order from someone rather than off the internet. it's more personal for them. i am still floored to this day that avon did that to me. i havent heard of many people that have been dissatisfied with their avon experience but i am and am totally boycotting their products.

I prefer Avon but I was an Avon Lady and am planning to be again. My main reason is affordability and variety. Mary Kay products are expensive. Avon offers a wide price range and diverse products a lot more than just make up and perfume.

That's what I like about Avon, too, it's less expensive, so I can try things without feeling bad b/c I wasted money if I don't like it. I got a great pair of earrings from them for $10 they are simple just hoops with little pink "stones" in them but I like them.

I like Mary Kay's skin care products and makeup better. Avon has great jewelry and other gift items that Mary Kay does not offer. I buy from both companies.

Both companies are great and have good makeup. But Avon makeup is affordable for I think I used to sell Avon and it seemed everyone loved it. And almost every piece of makeup and jewerly I have came from Avon I love Avon makeup. I think it is better then what is soldd in stores and if you catch things when they are on sale they can be same price or cheaper then the stores. Whenever someone ask me where I got this or that I tell them Avon and Avon gets another satisfied customer. You can also get new great cheap avon products on ebay. So for me Avon rules!

I like Avon a lot better. They are let expensive then Mary Kay. A friend of mine had a Mary Kay party and like hand lotion was 14 dollars for a small bottle it was insane. I get eye liner from them.

Why do you like Mary Kay better? I ask because we've gotten reasons for why people like Avon, but not Mary Kay, I'd like to compare the two.

I personally perfer Mary Kay, but I sell both! I am allergic to a lot of the Avon cosmetics and skin care products, but like their jewellery and gift items. The Mary Kay products are far superior, last a lot longer and I feel are worth the extra cost.

Thanks for mentioning cost, how much of a cost difference is there between Avon products and Mary Kay products? For example, for a toner and foundation, how much would that run someone from each?

i think avon is better than mary kay why? because i hear a lot of feedback about this mary kay product, this feedback comes from the user of mary kay..most of my friend are mary kay user...some is successful with the product but for those face who got burn..i think i suppose to play free.i better used avon..but it always depend upon the user..user should know when and how to used products and must learn how to follow instructions..

I think Avon has a lot more stuff to choose from... but I think that Mary K is better in skin care... and also the way their organization is set up. You make better money from Mary K and they treat their employees better.

I dont use make up because i do not really use it regularly, but im into selling business and Avon is one of the products i sell. Asude from wide variety of products u can choose from, its even an advantage for us to pay for the items due to its payment scheme... But my cousin has already introduce Mary Kay to me and she even let me tried it, and its a good product too. Not I am sure of, is if it also have direct selling strategy or is it only available in department store... hope somebody can inform me with this. thanks!

I like Avon much better. Aside from the various products, their prices are reasonable without compromising the quality of the product. I particularly like Avon lotions.
