Pregnancy. When should you quit working?

My daughter is wondering when she should start maternity leave. Did you work till you had your baby? Did you take maternity leave before your due date? What do you think is best?

For me, I ended up working up until the end! I finished my shift on a Monday, and scheduled to start my vacation on Tuesday and I had my son on Tuesday! LOL I didn't plan that... I really wanted to go on maternity leave at like 7 or 8 months simply because we knew I wasn't going back to work... Has your daughter decided yet? Is she going back to work after the baby is born?

Yes she is going back afterwards. I will be caring for the baby and her other daughter. I already watch my other grand baby.

That is so special for her to have such a caring babysitter for her child. I wish my mom was able to watch my little one when I go back to work but she is so busy with work.

When I was pregnant for my daugher I quit working five days before my due date. I think it is different for other people though. She should work until she no longer feels comfortable working. Usually a person knows what is best for them.

She has an easy job and can sit or stand all day. Some people are telling her she shouldn't be working. I told her they don't know what they are talking about. They are not doctors. Nothing is wrong so there is no reason to take leave till she has to.

I had the same type of job, just sitting all day but it does put pressure on the baby and pushes them down. With my condition (high risk) it was dangerous even to sit there all day. She is lucky that she is having such a smooth pregnancy. If so, she should wait until the end, that way she will have the whole time with the baby and be able to make a few extra bucks.

It depends on how she is feeling. If she is still comfortable working and there is no medical reason for her to stop then she can work up until the day she has the baby

No medical problems and she feels fine. She just has some friends that tell her bad stories trying to get her to take leave early.

My advise is if you are going to put the child in daycare what is the youngest they will take? Most daycares in my area won't take them until they are 6 weeks old so if that is true for you wait until the birth. As long as she is still feeling ok to work.

No daycare. I am staying home to care for my Grand children. I still think that she needs to spend sometime with the baby before she goes back to work.

This is easy. Stop working when you're ready to stop. I actually woke up having what I thought were false labor pains, went back to sleep, got up and went to work. I continued to have these contractions all day about every 15 minutes apart or so, but didn't leave because they were so far apart and didn't really bother me that much. But on my way home from work that day, they got closer, about every 6-8 minutes, and after I'd been home a couple hours they suddenly went to every 3 minutes. I went to the hospital that night and my son was born the next morning. So hey, whenever it bothers you to be at work, that's the right time to stop! There's no reason to stop working if you have a non-strenuous job, unless your doctor orders you to stop.

Well that is what I have told her. She has these friends that think they know everything. Thanks for the comment.

I worked all the way till I was in labour with both my boys. I even came into office the morning my contractions started. Being pregnant is not a disciplicing disease, a pregnant woman can fuction normaly till she delivers. Surely we won"t be as fast as before but there is no harm unless your job is hazardous to your health and baby's health.

I had to stop working at the end of my first trimester. I had a job that was on my feet and I couldn't be on my feet all day. I think she should work until she is ready to stop. The last two of them went into labor early and were at work the day before giving birth. But had planned to take leave 5 days before their due date to get the house ready.

I worked up until I started going into labor. But that's how the military is. Then you get six weeks off afterwards. I usually would take eight weeks off though. I think it all depends on the individual.

I suppose it all depends on how she is feeling and how her pregnancy is going. I think if she needs to go back to work after the baby is born she should work as long as possible, so she can have more time off available after the birth.

Yes that is what I think. I know she wants to stay home for a while with the baby. She gets 6 weeks paid maternity leave. Thanks for commenting.

the people worked right up until having seven month , with literally from the doctor had her and went back to work that night, It really does also depend on the person and how complicated the pregnancy is. If you are happy and feel fine then there is no reason to continue working righ up to seven moth then she got maternity leave for three month untill she birth.

I think the choice of when to take maternity leave is a personal decision and based on how the woman is feeling. Some people have great pregnancies and can work up until they have the baby and some find it difficult to work or have circumstances where they have to be off work and on bed rest. Some people would rather having the extra time on the other end where they can spend the whole time with their baby instead of taking some time before to relax and get things ready. I, personally planned on working as long as I could. I was due in November, but was forced to stop working the end of August because for over a month beforehand my cervix had started to open and they were afraid of preterm labor. I had the baby the end of October (she was three weeks early) and was able to get paid leave all that time. I wish I would have been able to work up until my due date and be off until this October but I would rather have a healthy baby instead. Tell your daughter to ask her doctor what he thinks and she just might have to play it by ear.
