Did you ever consider that paying off your debts might improve your income?

I was listening to a Christian Radio talk show this morning and this well known author has just released a book about mapping your finances. He speaks of getting things right with God on a financial level. Even if you don't believe in God, don't you think that it is worth it just for good karma or even just your health to get financial debts in order. A girl came on talking about how she had worked for money but didn't pay her taxes...I found this so interesting that she just really wanted to get it right. It was actually somewhat inspirational to me to get my own finances in order. What's your opinion on the matter? Do you think you should be responsible for all your debts whether they be taxes owed (even that you could get away with), credit cards, hospital bills or whatever?

Of course we should be responsible for our debts. I mean they are "our" debts, if we are not responsible, then who would be? I think this goes further than finance, but back to alot of people in this day and age not wanting to take responsibility for their actions, financial or otherwise.

i totally agree with you...so often these days people take their aggrivations with the government or whatever as an excuse to get away not paying their debts...but as aggrivating as certain things can be...if you accumulated the debt then it should be your resposibility. i think the only time a what if could come in is with hospital situations...out of work, out of pay and sick...that can be a difficult situation.

The Bible has a LOT to say about how we should handle our money. We should pay our debts as much as possible. We all fall on hard times, but the ultimate goal is to be debt free. Plus, the IRS will get you for not paying taxes!

SO TRUE! It's so hard to just figure out where to begin sometimes...don't you think? And yes, the bible said enough for this man to write a whole book about it:)

having debts is not a profitable proposition, because the one who is giving you debt is looking for some profit, so i think it is better to clear of debt, how ever tight your budget may be.

I believe in Karma. Life is like a river. In and out. You need balance in your life including financial part of it.

I think there is definatly a need for balance financially because so much of what you do is reliant upon your finances. Thanks for your comment.

If you don't pay your bills, financial trouble will bite you in the butt. You need to pay your bills to be in good or adequate financial shape. I have learned that too.

paying debts will never improve income however this is different in business. having debts is sometimes if not most of the time beneficial.

Life is so much more enjoyable if you have your finances in order. If you know where you stand financially, everything else seems to fall in place. I sleep better and work better knowing my finances are in order.

Sometimes people fall into what you might call hard times. Yes I believe if you have bills you should pay them. Even it that means paying it alittle bit at a time until you get it paid you should try to make some effort. I am sure you would feel better and have a much better life if you had all your bills paid! You wouldnt have the headaches as to where am I going to get the money to pay the bills ect.

Credit cards are the biggest scam of the century. It's good to get out of debt and have more disposable income. There are several religious authors who are trying right now to get people to see that debt is not a smart road to follow. It's a very wise idea to not be in debt.

I think that it is good to take care of your responsibilities and make good on your debts. You feel better without this pressure hanging over your head and in the back of your mind.

I agree, that is my most important wish as well, to pay off the debt. Why do you think I am on MyLot....to make a extra buck of course! Everly little bit helps!!!

To a greater extent the individuals are themselves responsible for their own debt. But when they do not have alternative but there are more dependents who have to be cared for there is no other alternative except to indulge in debts. After sometime debt eats the debt and becomes enlarged. It really becomes difficult to stop this swelling unless one make s concerted effort to clear the same on time. If one is debtor he should be watchful and try to come out of it as early as possbile. Because of our folly somebody else is becoming rich somewhere at our sufferings.

Yes I believe we all should be responsible for our own debt. The big issue is, people don't know how to budget and companies know how to reel ya in. Did you know 90% of people die with debt? Big number, eh?

I do think you should be responsible for the debt you accumlate. Unless like a major accident or something that was caused by someone else. I never feel like I can catch up. I've got them in order and no ones calling me or anything but I don't feel I can ever get ahead cause they're always something waiting around the corner. Esp owning a home. I do think if you have less debt that you would be happier and healthier because you wouldn't worry so much. I don't like paying taxes like everyone else on Earth but it's the law.
