A mom goes to jail after giving birth to a drunk baby here is part of the story from channel 4 news
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — A woman who police say had been drinking heavily before she gave birth was charged with child neglect after the baby was born intoxicated and diagnosed with fetal alcohol syndrome.
Melissa Irene Tanner, 37, had a blood alcohol content of 0.29 percent when she gave birth June 30, and her daughter's was 0.21 percent, according to an affidavit by police. The legal limit for drivers in Oklahoma is 0.08 percent.
Hospital staff had to use an oxygen bag to help the baby start breathing and gave her medication to counteract any narcotics, according to the affidavit.
Tanner allegedly told police she and another person had consumed a case of beer and that she regularly drank during her pregnancy.
She was jailed on $30,000 bail. At a court appearance this week, Tanner was advised of her rights and ordered to return to court Aug. 5. She has not yet filed an application for an attorney or entered a plea, the court clerk's office said. So is this crazy or what

Nowadays the term motherhood has no real meaning. She is going to be a mother of a child which she would have to nourish and take care. What was wrong with her. I wish such people dont get pregnant. Why spoil someother human beings life when yours itself is screwed.

This actually happened a few years back unless it happened again. I worked at Jane Phillips MC when this occured And remembered how shocked but not really people were. The mother was actually from a neighboring town Called Dewey. This happens all the time all over the USA and mostly with Methanphetmines. What sets this case apart from others is that she was not just drinking a little but was competetly wasted as was the poor baby. She went straight to jail. It's so sad. That baby will have severe health problems as long as it lives.

My god, its things liek this that makes me sick to be human.
really, people should hav to take a 3-month certificate course before being allowd to marry. Why must we tak driver's licnss to drive cars, and none to raise kids, when raising kids wrongly is 30000000X more damaging?

what person in her right mind would do such a thing??? well, i guess it goes without saying that the woman wasn't in her proper frame of mind... poor baby, so many women out there who would do anything to have a child and then you hear of someone blessed to have one yet neglected her duties as a parent-to-be... how sad...

That woman doesn't deserve her baby back. She didn't love it enough not to drink while pregnant. I feel sorry for that baby. I hope it's ok now.

The poor baby I hope it is taken of the mother. She sounds like an unfit mother that is ridicules to drink that much when heavily pregnant..........

I can't believe that woman can do this! There are so many woman out there trying to have babies and can't and then you have something like this. They need to lock her up with prisoners who will take care of her real good-i know in chgo they have child abusers,molesters,murderers so she would get it good!

This woman is so stupid. I really hope that she does not get her baby back. It looks like she didnt care about this baby. This just makes me so mad right now!!!
