OOoohhh, a two-part question! I dated my hubby & best friend for 7 years before we married. We lived together for 5 years. He was my highschool sweetie! Marriage is over rated though. The only thing it changes is the "cost of breaking up" & tax break. It's mostly a religious ceremony. The time necessary depends on the relationship and the people involved.
