The Christians and Pagans: Why do most some christians put them down?

This is something that I wondered since i was a child. I had a close friend who's mother was part wicca which is associated with Pagan beliefs. I was told by my mother that it was fine for me to have my friend teach me some things about the wiccan beliefs, but the chruch (roman catholics) had strong objections to it. I've heard radical christians state that people who practice pagan rituals are devil worshipers. These people i find 'stupid' for a simple term. There are many facts that point out that most of the christian practices come from pegan beliefs. How you do you feel about this? And how do you react to groups and christians putting down the pagan religion?? Now i love a good debate so I want peoples opinon about this. speak your mind and please speak in detail, for one liners will be rated (-) and spammers will be reported. thanks Here are some quotes from some website that i find very interesting. ---------------------------- from AskWhy! http://www.askwhy.co.uk/christianity/0795PagansChristians.html "Christianity used Paganism like a teenager building his hot rod—it was a great source of spare parts. The large holes in Christianity were filled with adaptations from Paganism. The ancient philosophers, whose schools the Christians shut, gave it philosophy. Christianity often cynically adopted Pagan rites and ideas. They were “received” into the Church. Every important church festival coincides with an ancient solar or Pagan festival. The roles of Pagan gods were given to saints. It is a curious god this Christian one, that refuses to allow any other gods but cannot think of any new dates for his own festivals. Instead, He choses ones used for countless millennia by the gods he does not like and renames those old gods as Christian saints and lets them carry on with their old jobs!" ---------------------------- And this is a section from an article i found interesting as well http://atheism.about.com/b/a/025971.htm http://atheism.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.thesylvaherald.com/A%2Dpagans%5F091103.htm "Pagans and Christians clashed in Sylva, North Carolina, when Christian evangelists disrupted an outdoor meeting of Pagans at a public park. Protestors were asked to shut off car stereos blaring Christian music and street preacher Dean Moore was asked to put away his megaphone which he used to shout out "Jesus Saves." It is worth noting that the story carries a picture of Sylvan Hearth Pagan Temple High Priestess Lianna Costantino-Cardon extending her hand in friendship and greeting to Dean Moore, but he refused to take it and like a child kept his own hands behind the sandwich board he used to promote his "Turn to Jesus" message. What does that say about his character?" --------------------------- How do you feel about people like this???

Honestly, I think its because most Christians dont understand the true meaning of Paganism. They just think it's all about witches and spells and all of that. Ignorance.

i agree...as christians we should respect the pagan religion and take them on as friends...instead the catholic chruch tries to put them down. maybe to hide the fact that alsmost everything came from them??? who knows..but this is why i always questioned the church.

Great job on your post. I believe that the conflict comes from a male dominated society which was in fear of the female society from which they came. I feel that Christianity has been manipulated to advance the male domination. I have a hard time learning about the bible, but I've never liked the fact that there are different "versions". Sounds suspicious to me. Aloha!

This is how I view it. Christians and religins similar teaching dont take the time to learn something about other religins to be able to make an deucated decision as to whether they are evil or not. They dont understand that we all serve and worshihp the same God. I had a response in one of my threads that after I said I serve the same God as he did they said that is what the devil wants you to think. Now I dont understand how worshiping from home or going outside and worshiping is bad. Christians and other religins of the same teaching believe that they have to travel to another building and worship and if that works for them then good for them. The biggest problem is ignorance. They dont take the time to learn a littl about it before making judgement.

I am Wiccan and I am also Jewish. People are so closed minded and some people have been almost what I consider to be brainwashed into believing certain things and only those certain things! I respect others religions and what they do in them. Why can't people respect Wiccans. Close minded people do not realize that there is White magic and black magic. Also that it is not necessarily pagan. People out there worship the devil. Those are Satanists. Some of the things that have been done I think are wrong. Then of course we have the radical groups who do bigamy, and lots of bad things. I honestly think it is a combination of brainwashing and people not having an open mind!

thats my attitude as well...magick isnt black or white for me it just is...and for the record Satanism is also a very misunderstood path which is unfortunate really becuase its actually very interesting and quite logical in a lot of ways...But yes, bottomline IMO is that ppl are closed minded and refuse to open up to the world around them...I think there is a ridiculous fear in the naysayers that if they learn about other ppls ways they are somehow betraying their own path/religion/god etc and thats such a shame...learnign is never a betrayal to anyone in fact NOT learning and expanding your knowledge IMO is the betrayal not only to yourself but also to the ppl in your life ya know...

Freedom of Religion. Simply put it is no ones right to pry into others religious beliefs. Everyone has the right to practise their religion of choice so long as no one elses rights are infringed upon. At the same time people must realize that if they are promoting or putting their religion out there for everyone to see then they are openning themselves to inquiry. That said anyone asking about someones religion should be curtious. Open discussion is how we learn.
