Do you stop when a school bus stops to pick up kids and the red lights are on?

Is everyone aware that you are supposed to stop when the bus is picking up kids and the red lights are on and the stop sign is sticking out? It seems a lot of people either do not know this or do not care and just keep going. My state is taking action and is having a state trooper on the bus with the kids and reporting any car in violation of this rule.

I always stop when they have those things on! I'm so scared that i'd hit a kid or something I really think it's sad that people don't know that they have to stop for stuff like that this is how kids get hit my cars

I would be scared and devastated if I were to hit a kid. I always stop as well.

Yes, I always stop. It's the law. And, I would never want to hurt someone driving my car.

Great to hear that you always stop. It is the law and my state is doing something about it and hope other states will too.

I have been aware of this law for years, although I have seen some people actually just keep going from the other direction and some cars whip around and pass the line of cars stopped behind the bus. This is what gets kids killed and should be heavily punished.

I agree that these people should be punished severely for doing things like that.

Yes, it's the law to stop. You can have your driver's license suspended for 90 days if you are caught. The obvious reason for this law is for the children getting off at bus stops to be safe and not to get run over by vehicles.

The safety of our children getting on and off buses is the most important issue here and people can go to jail for it and pay fines and have their license suspended.

I always stop, but I have seen others not stop going the other direction. It is the law here, but how often is there a police officer around when it happens? I like the idea of having a trooper on the bus with the kids. Or even put the thought in peoples minds that there "might" be one, would make people think before they pass another bus.

Obviously they will not be able to put troops on all the buses but it is good to know something is being done about the situation and if people knew there were troops around maybe people would take more caution.

Not everybody stops as it has been in the news a lot locally here and are starting to have police now riding on the bus to catch people who do not stop.

I always stop whether I am behind them or approaching them. I always stop a few hundred feet back to just incase. You never know when someone will not see that you are stopped and cause you to slam into children crossing in front of the bus. At least if that would ever happen to me, I would be far enough back as to hopefully never ever hit any of the children.

I stay far back as possible as well and stop just in case children run across the road. It is good that our state is taking this seriously and doing something about it.

yes i do. I used to be a crossing guard at my kids school. i couldn't believe how many people don't know the rules when it comes to school crossings and buses. it used to make me so mad, people just don't seem to care. they need to go back to driving school lol.

It is sad how many people do not care or just plain disobey the rules. They should not even be allowed to drive as far as I am concerned. I hope they are teaching this in drivers eds classes.

I'm sure they do know, but sometimes they're in a hurry and trying to get to wherever it is they're going to. I stop all the time because I know the bus has the right of way.

That is good that you stop. We need to make sure our kids are safe and you never know when a child may run across the street in a hurry to get on the bus.

I think that is great that your state is doing this. Yes, I always stop. Would you believe just the other day, when crossing guard walked out and was trying to stop the traffic, two cars decided they didn't want to stop! People are in way too much of a hurry. And sadly, it will cost a child's life or severe injury.

I hope that other states will start doing something to catch people that are breaking the law and not being careful around our children. It is also dangerous for a crossing guard when people do not stop when they are supposed to stop.

You are right about not every state being able to put a trooper on a bus. Hopefully our country can find ways to better protect our children.

I always stop when a bus has its red flashing lights on. It's the law where I live. And besides, I don't want a child to run in front of my vehicle and getting hit.

Yes I have been doing that since I have been driving and that's been a long time ago.My kids bus was involved in an accident last year because of a car following to closely, wasn't aware the bus was stopped and hit them.A big YELLOW school bus means CAUTION! come on how could he miss that?
