TWO WOMEN MICROWAVE THEIR BABIES!!!

I came across these two articles and am so disgusted, how can someone do this to children!?!?! On the morning of 23 September 1999, Joseph Anthony Martinez, father of one-month-old Joseph Lewis Martinez, woke at 5.30am and found 20-year-old Elizabeth Renee Otte, Joseph Jr's mother, lying next to him in bed. He was surprised he hadn't been awoken in the night by his son as he normally was. He went to his son's cot but found it empty. After searching the house Joseph Snr asked Elizabeth if she knew where the child was but she appeared "not in her right mind", according to court evidence. She told him she had left the baby in his cot. She then had an epileptic fit. It was one of 50 she had suffered in the previous few months. The fits were caused by her not taking her medication while carrying Joseph Jr. Joseph Snr called the police, who began searching the house with friends of the family who had also turned up to help. Eventually, Joseph Snr's younger sister and Otte's best friend, Alina Martinez, discovered Joseph Jr stuffed inside the 18in-wide microwave around 6am. He was wearing a Winnie the Pooh romper suit and was stiff and covered in blisters. Experts determined he probably died after about 10 minutes in the microwave, by which time his blood temperature would have risen to 106oF. Elizabeth told police the last time she recalled being with her son was at 1am, when feeding him. She entered an 'Alford plea' to a charge of involuntary manslaughter - which meant she didn't have a trial or have to admit guilt, but accepted there was enough evidence to convict her - and was sentenced to five years in prison. WHAT THE HECK!! 5YEARS!!!! Dayton Mother Charged in Baby's Death Nov 28 2006 2:35PM DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - A microwave is suspected to have killed a month-old girl last year who had a high body temperature, and her mother has been charged in the death, authorities said Tuesday. China Arnold, 26, was arrested at her home Monday on a charge of aggravated murder, more than a year after she brought her dead baby to a hospital on Aug. 30, 2005, police said. The absence of external burn marks on Paris Talley and high-heat internal injuries support the idea that the baby was put in the microwave, said Ken Betz, director of the Montgomery County coroner's office. "We have reason to believe, and we have some forensic evidence that is consistent with our belief, that a microwave oven was used in this death," he said. This is so sick!!!!

these are terrible things the mothers have done to their babies! the punishment they got isn't nearly enough!!!being a mother myself, I cannot imagine how anyone could ever do this to their child. it just makes me sick to think about a mother being so cruel!

It is a shame there are Women like this, but a lot of it could be they are suffering from a form of some type of Depression, or post partum depression, and have refused to look into getting any type of help for it, and then do something like this. It happens unfortunately, more than most people would like to admit.

i know in canada a nurse comes to see you a few times after you have your baby within the first month just to see how you are coping! I wish this was more common

i have also heard of these stories and a few others over the years. I think the women are mentaly sick and need help themselves. I am not sure if prison was the right course of action. Maybe a longer stay in a mental instatution would have been better.

Interesting...i do believe the fist one was a deliberate kill however there is a case called "internal combustion" which causes extreme heat burns from the inside-outwards. So the second case may have been that. Either way, its not sick. At least not to me. It appears just the right thing that a human being would do, in my view. Most humans are violent, sick minded people that kill for fun anyway.

The child killed was considered as a crime and the punishment given was 5 years in prison. In the meanwhile the mother who had the mind sick will be treated and must make her cure when she was in the prison.

I am so sicken with this kind of news. I have stopped watching the news because of it. When horrible things happen in the world I dont think we should announce it or give it any kind of attention. I wish it could be like that. I think you find less horriable things happening. They wouldnt be getting any attention.

but we need to bring awareness to the subject, hopefully people will start to eventually feel more compfortable with speakign about depression and be able to tell others how they feel, maybe resulting in saving ones life

I had read this recently too. It is so sad that the poor babies had to go through that. I don't see how anyone can hurt a baby. They are so innocent. It is the greatest thing I have ever done with my life to have children and I could not dream of hurting them. In a way I understand that the one lady was extremely ill, and probably doesn't remember what she did to her baby. I'm sure even though she only got 5 years she will serve a life sentence in her mind for what she did.

that is so incredibly disgusting. the thought makes me want to vomit. i dont understand how anybody could ever consider microwaving a baby! these people are obviously mentally demented. i dont even know what to say about this, because i still just cant believe it. i know there was a story about someone microwaving their dog or cat...but come on, A BABY?! ironically, this discussion was listed right above the discussion for "microwaving food can be bad for the health" or something like that...

I cannot believe in todays society and legal maturity that these women are allowed to do this. And by giving them a slap on the wrist the courts are saying no, no, bad girl. These women should be surgcally sterilized and branded as murderers.

OMG...! I honestly cant believe that. That is very sick! I dont understand how someone could ever harm a baby! They have to be sick in their own mind for doing something like that! They should have been sentenced longer than that in prison. SICK O's!!!!!!!!!!!

no - no
How could these mothers do this thing to the babies that they carried for 7-9 months on their womb and painfully given birth but at the end, just kiled their babies. Animals are better off than they are. If these animals see someone (another animal or a human being) whom they thought is a threat to their offspring's safety, they'll do whatever they can to safeguard their offspring. Just like what I've said in another discussion, these people are crazy people, mentally ill at that. There are women who wanted to have babies but have no capacity to give birth but they, who are given the gift of child bearing just wasted the gift that they were given. They should be jailed for life if not executed, by the manner they killed their babies.

Its shocking and so upsetting to read something like this, with a mentally unstable person one has to be real careful, since they are not in their right frame of mind they are capable of anything the mistake lies with the people around they need to be really careful, out them on medication and constant check ups. Its really sad to hear this
