Are parents in contemporary society obliged to contribute money towards their childs wedding, regardless of the childs gender? Or should children be independent and pay for it all on their own?

Do you think they are obliged to? Would you ask or should you wait until they offer?

I believe that both parents, the brides and the grooms, should get together with the bride and groom and share cost of what they want for the wedding.

I don't think there's anything wrong with parents shipping in to help with the wedding expenses, wedding are getting expensive these days and any help with will do.

In our culture, it is the bride's parents who have to pay for the wedding. But I personally feel that the bride and groom should take care of it. The parents can help if they want to. In India, most of the weddings have become extravagant affairs with each family trying to show their wealth which I think is very stupid....throwing away all that money just to keep up with the Joneses.
