Do You Think September 11, 2001 Has Become A Distant Memory?

With the 5th anniversary of 9/11 now over, I wonder...has 9/11 become a distant memory? Or do people still remember the tragic events that took place, when not reminded by the media and movies? Also, when you think of 9/11 do you think of the World Trade Center only? Or do you also remember the Pentagon? Or Pennsylvania? Do you remember the flight crews and pilots involved? Or just the passengers and people who were in the buildings?

I am from Canada, so I am sure it is different here. However...I remember those events, but life goes on and you tend to forget about it till it is brought up again. I remember being home the morning of 9/11 and watching it unfold on television and thinking it was not real.....

I think that maybe New Yorkers always remember because every time they look to the skyline of their city they notice the towers missing. Maybe others tend to forget, but I doubt they can because it is constantly there in their faces. In the Netherlands they are constantly playing videos, documentaries and interviews that Dutch people can't forget, but that is because of the media as you say. Excellent question by the way. Plus!

9/11 is not a distant memory for me. I do research on it every day. We must remember that it is used as the basis for passing laws, and signing statements on a very regular basis. It has resulted in the destruction of the Constitition, the removal of rights, the increase in torture and imprisonment. So its effects are with us on a daily basis. Many people still believe the government conspirsacy theory about 19 hijackers. This is so blatantly impossible that anyone who has done any serious research would find it laughable if it wasn't so tragic. If and when a proper investigation is carried out with independent investigators NOT appointed by the government members of the New World Order who perpetrated the event, then their will be many hangings taking place, with Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld at the front of the queue.

It will never become a distant memory to me. My brother-in-law is the Fire Chief of Shanksville and was one of the first to respond to the crash of Flight 93. I have been to the site and have seen the photos of the crash, all the mementos and heard the entire story. There is a fence there where people attach things. They are left to hang until they start to look windblown, at which time they are removed and preserved until they take up permanent residence in a future memorial to be built there. The site itself, which was a huge crater, has been filled in so there is nothing to really see. However, there is now a garden of angels, seats to sit in that bear the names of those who perished, and a volunteer to tell you all about the events of that day. Just hearing about it while looking out over the field is enough to invoke deep emotion. I will never forget....

When I think of September 11, 2001, I remember all the lives that were lost, just as I also remember the lives that were lost when I think of Nagasaki and Hiroshima - http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2001/08/06/world/main305049.shtml

I am living in Ireland, but I don't think I will ever forget 9/11. Every time I board a plane I think of all the poor people who perished and the families they left behind.

Do not try to remember the bitter and painful memories from the past. Hope for better tomorrow it always comes. Belive in our goodness and creations, never worry about mishaps and disasters. Nothing can stop our endavour in making human more civilised. Whenwe are defeted in something that shows we were not aware of, take the lesson of failure for a success tomorrow. I of course understand the pain you are talking about.

- I think if you lost loved ones, it's in your mind. I didn't lose any loved ones, but remember it, as I'm into, well, somewhat of a cross between prophecy and fortune telling.. and I think of society alot (social and political science). Yes, I do think about the victims on the airplanes, and the heroic success on flight 93, which saved the capital - likely either the white house or the capital building.. but at the same time, did not save them. I think it's not so much in the minds of others.. or they don't take the threat seriously. And look at all the belief, evidenced on the internet, that America herself was behind 9/11 (what about the other acts of terrorism in the 90's when terrorism grew by 50%(!). I think there is more distrust of our own democratic governement, in many circles, than there is of terrorists, or rogues (despots) getting wmd's and providing them to terrorists. I think this is for a large part due to the U.S. party divide, which has fallen into the "villify the opposing party, and prez" (whether Clinton or Bush) to get votes. This is not best for the country.
