Which one will be first for president? Will america be more willing for a black man as president or a white woman? My husband and I discussed this the other day, I personally think it could be either way. He thinks America is not ready for a Black president. Tell me what you think.....

I just had this discussion the other day too - trying to figure out if it will be Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. I think it is great that these two are the front-runners for the Democratic ticket. Personally, I think that America is more ready for a Black president than a woman, in most cases. However, it would depend on the person, too. For example, I think that America would prefer Obama to Clinton, but would prefer Clinton to Reverend Al. I think that the most important is the candidate's ability to connect to a wide range of people and inspire confidence in their abilities.

Excellent post. I totally agree. I would much rather vote for Obama over Clinton, and I would vote for Clinton over Al. You hit the nail right on the head!

My vote is for a woman. Black or white it does not matter a woman is a woman. But unfortunately America is based on a man's world still and a black man or any man of any nationality would win before a woman! I would LOVE to see a woman rule America for 4 years to show this discrimanating country what a woman could do!

Gosh I hope it would be the black man. She has no business being in that postion. That is for a man not a women. She needs to go home and take care of her family and maybe he would of not had to do what he did when he was there. And who want a frist man in the white house???

Are we talking about Clinton or women in general? Are you saying a woman's place is in the home only?

Barak Obama is who is being referred to. He's a strong contender for the presidential race.

Hey rherdey, You are ignorant. A woman could screw things up just as easily as a man. Look at the mess men have made! We NEED some good leaders and it doesn't matter if those leaders are male or female. It is that your type of good old boy mentality that got us G.W.Bush, and what a mistake that was! Another thing; considering the average age of a president, I hardly think it necessary to have her "go home and take care of her family." The family is probably grown anyhow. And only a weak man fears a powerful woman, so why wouldn't a good man want to be "first Man" in the White House? Hmmmm. Are YOU afraid of strong women? Pathetic.

I think it will be a White Woman, Hilary Clinton, I would vote for her. She seems more experience, because her huband was President and quiet as its kept, she probaly give him advise.

America is ready now for either a black man or a woman to be president. A few years ago we would have already elected a black man, Colin Powell, if he had not chosen to run for personal reasons. In the next election, a woman who happens to be black, Condi Rice, would win easily against either Senators Obama or Clinton. Yes, definitely, the USA is ready to elect a black man or a woman, or even a black woman!

In my opinion I think that a black man will be elected president before a woman will. I don't really have any reson for why I think what I do, that is just my thought.

If you're thinking of the white woman and black man that I am ... I think there is too much controversy surrounding the woman, so therefore I think that the black man will be elected before that white woman. I'm also very confident that white, black, male, female ... a Republican will not be elected as president in the next election. And before anyone gets to upset, I say that as a Republican!

I am kind of hoping soon a black man will take over as president..I am very interested to see the moves he would make to straighten this country out..no offense to anyone, but I think that having a white woman as president would be just like having a white man as president..wouldn't change anything..now how about you go way outside the box and get a black woman as president..

For me, it depends on their views. I could care less if the man was purple.. or if there was a woman (seeing that I am one). If it's Hillary Clinton that you're saying is running, then I would definately vote for her.

President Freeman - Morgan Freeman playing President in Deep Impact.
I'm not really sure myself which will be first. I want to say a woman because I think Hilary Clinton will run next term and I'm almost 100% sure she'd win. I think it's about time for someone in there though other than a bunch of old white men. Personally though - I want Morgan Freeman to be president. I'd follow that man anywhere!

The First Black President 2020:Is America Ready? - A picture of an idea of a black man as president
I think that America would rather have a "white" woman rather than a "black" man. I agree with your husband America is not ready for a black president. They would rather have a woman that is white in office than a man that is black. Its just how I feel that it is.I mean I just think they dont care if its a man or woman as long as they are "white".It just seems that minorities are looked down on. But they dont realize or they dont wanna realize that the minority is become the majority.I think they are scared to expect a black president because he would be a strong and wise leader. He would change so much in the world and they cant handle it because they see that black men are some of the strongest men.If it was up to me if I had to chose although I am a woman with me being black I would without a doubt want the black man to win.......

you say the minority is becoming the majority The only numbers that matter are the ones with dollar signs in front of them, honey. And it will be a long, long time before a non-white race has the power that money can buy. Therefore, even if there is a non-white president elected, he or she will still be controlled by the whites with the money. And by the way, contrary to your statement, people are not afraid of a black presidnet "because he would be a strong and wise leader," as you say. They fear he would not do what is in the country's best interest and instead do what is in his races's best interest, IN SPITE of what is best for the country. And when you say, "they see that black men are some of the strongest men," I really don't know where you are coming from. While there are indeed strong and honorable black men whom I admire, it is there character, not their skin color, which is remarkable. A black man's skin color is no more responsible for his success (or failure) than is the skin color of any other man. As a black woman, I would think you would understand that. Personally, I want the best person for the job regardless of race or gender. A woman in the White House? It will happen some day. Afterall, there are many countries with female leaders. A minority in the White House? Hopefully some day. But I can think of NO country with a minority as a leader unless the minority race is the wealthy race, as in South Africa.

I think Americans will prefer the woman over the black man. How about Hilary as the presidential candidate and Obama as VP?

Black, white, female, or male. I hope America doesn't vote on race or gender. I wouldn't care either way. I just want a good president. And I think either one would be a good president. But you did ask who America would be more willing to vote for though, and I think America might actually vote for a black man as president. Or at least I'm hoping. I think it be good for America. Everyone is afraid of change, but it's time for a change. I think we should be more open to the idea of a woman being president and of people of another race for president. I'm ready. Are you?

I think America is not ready for either one yet personally. I think they would come as near voting for a black woman as they would a white woman or a black man -- given the same qualifications, I think any of these 3 possibilities would have an equal chance.

Hilary Clinton - Picture of Hilary Clinton
Well as long as it's not anyone in the Bush family at all, I'll be happy. I knew that Hillary Clinton was a possible in the running, but up until reading your post had no idea about a black man or who Barack Obama was. So with that in mind, I asked my husband, and he said....A black man will be president before a woman ever is...but I think Hillary has a shot....a good one...I mean wouldn't that be cool to have Former President Bill Clinton as the first lady, I mean man, and you know that she will more than likely turn to him for most of her decisions and advice, I think he did a good job running our country for 8 years, and since he's been gone, we've gone down hill, and have lost alot of valuable soldiers to an never ending cause, mind you this is just my opinion and only that. I am not opposed to a black man as president, I just dont know anything about him, and will try to find out to see what my take on him is. But my vote is for Hilary....anyone know how many woman are in the USa that are of legal voting age, cause if it is more than the men, I'll bet if Hillary runs she'll win....I expect the vast majority of woman would vote for her or any other woman to make a historical statement.(just my opinion)Good discussion!

If America would look past the color issues that they seem to have and look at the canidates stance, they might make the right choice. Our country is so hung up on issues that we most likely will get neither!
