There have been much hype about the Microsoft's latest operating System Vista. It boast about better graphics, better security, better features. Microsoft's site recommended system configuration for vista is something which all people cannot afford. Do you think that Vista would be very successful in the market? Would the release of Vista open its way to Linux as the primary Operating System on desktop?

Wel i did not use vista yet, i am currently using XP, if i install vista my system will slow down, i don't think that vista will be the best for all, Linux is made for developers, linux is very very secure than microsoft windows. so i prefere linux in order to compare linux and windows. thanks dude i like this discussion very much, thanks for your time dude...

Hmmm... As far as i feel from home segment point of view i think vista is going to be flop unless pc manufacturers supply vista with they pc's. But then from office segment point of view vista may not loose its value as it is highly secure. But many entrepreneur look like shifting basis from windows to linux before of the cost of the os. Overall i think vista will recieve a bad beating in the beginning but chances of it recovering are also very dim.

hmmmm...nice question....vista has got the look and the feel....apart from the awesome and mind blowing features....it is a major step ahead in the technological development... but its needs and system requirements are extremely difficult to meet up.... so it is better if microsoft releases its vista product after a year or so...so that the standard increases and it's requirements can be meet by many more people than what is currently existing

That is something I find lately, that software is advancing faster than the computers, to keep up with todays software advances you need to upgrade your computer or purchase a new one every six months or so

If vista has the same running record as XP then security will be it's downfall, I never seen a program with as many faults in security as XP....My 30 gig harddrive is full and probably 45% of this is updates that I receive to make my system secure.

Microsoft claims Vista is secure. They told that for XP too but now we all know how secure XP is. I hope there would be some Vista beta testers here in myLot. Lets see what they got to tell about security in Vista. Thanks for your response.

Just like other Microsoft OS, full of controversy & dissatisfaction. But still occupied most market share. It's the result from monopoly. Consumer bave no choice because many others use Microsoft ... ~~

well it's a good question .. when XP was introduced 5 or 6 years back its min config was 128 mb ram and recommended was 256. well as u know today u can buy 512 mb ram at the same price as u would have bought 128 mb ram then. Processor cost has also reduced tremendously but what so ever may be it's not the correct time to switch to vista.as in XP it might have many security holes

As you said RAM's price reduced considerably. But RAM is not the only thing microsoft vista needs. It requires a decent graphic card with atleast 128 MB memory for all those eye candy. From what i know still many people still consider graphic card as a unnecessary part to a computer. They are not ready to spend money on it. Without those graphic card it is said that all those eye candy are turned off. Without all those graphic effect of microsoft vista, is there any use in buying it? Can't we still go for Windos XP? Thank You romihim for your response.

I think it's gonna be a flop show like Windows ME. But let's see, as I haven't experienced vista.
