How in the world do you get your toddler to chew their food? The little boy I watch Jarynn who is about one...will not chew his vegetables and meat. He just swollows whole whatever I give him. Its driving me batty. He'll chew other things, but when I am the one feeding him, he just swollows it.

ha ha This is not uncommon and I found the best way with my kids in this stage was to show them what I was doing. I would put a piece of food in my mouth and point for them to watch...I would then chew with my mouth open to over-exaggerate. And when I was done chewing, I would give them a bite to encourage them to do so. It takes some time and patience...but he will catch on. When he does chew, clap you hands and be very encouraging. They love it when they make you happy. Note...do not have tv on or anything else that will distact. You need to be the center of attention. Good luck sweetie! Let me know how things are going. I would love to hear if you get him to chew! :)

Oh he'll chew after he swollows. lol He'll pretend he is still chewing on it even though I know its not in there anymore. He'll even pretend to pick something up and eat it...and pretend he is chewing.

Sorry, I didn't realize you put a comment here. But I wanted to say the fact that he is pretending to chew, is great! It shows he knows the motions. :) Now, just getting him to focus on the food while it is his mouth. LOL Keep me updated. I would love to hear about when you do finally get him to chew before swallowing!!!!

I don't really have any good ideas to tell you but I know how you feel. I always hated feeding the little ones. I was lucky in a way because most of the kids I watched were still eating some form of baby food. Maybe try cutting it up a little more or make those chewing motions to him. I don't know what else to tell you.
