On Saturday 19th August 2006, the Southall Broadway Safer Neigbourhood Team in partnership with Ealing Council Trading Standards recovered approximately 10,000 counterfeit DVD’s and CD’s from a commercial address in King Street, Southall, Middlesex. According to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) over £50,000 pounds worth of goods (street value) were seized following the raid at Umana Halal, No 23, King Street, Southall, Middlesex The partnership visited the premises at 1430hrs on 19th August following intelligence and information received from a variety of sources including the community, which indicated that it was involved in the sale and distribution of illegal, and counterfeit DVDs and CDs. Four (4) Asian Males aged 18yrs, 18yrs, 21yrs and 28yrs were arrested in connection with the seizure. They have all now been released from police custody and are subject to an investigation by Ealing Council Trading Standards Officers for offences relating to the Trades Mark Act 1994, Video Recording Act 1984/1993 and the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. This latest seizure included New Bollywood titles such as Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna Krissh Phir Hera Pheri Anthony Khaun Hai Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Along with major new Hollywood titles such as Monster House Miami Vice My Super Ex-Girlfriend Pirates of the Caribbean Superman Returns. At the premises police and council officers discovered the following items 10,000 counterfeit DVD’s and CD’s (approximately); A large quantity of DVD’s sleeves and boxes A quantity of DVD players A quantity of computer equipment
