3G technology

For the mobile industry, waiting for people to use the net via their phone has been like waiting for a bus that never comes. Even though a huge number of mobile phones in use can access the internet, and after the launch of faster third-generation (3G) data services, only 10% of Europeans actually use their handsets to go online. The situation is the same in almost every other nation apart from Japan and Korea where faster mobile networks are much more common. The slow take up has been blamed on the restrictions phone firms place on net access, confusion over cost, awkward page layouts and slow browsing speeds. To make matters worse, 3G handsets have been clunky rather than funky. "It's like picking a girlfriend or boyfriend. The first and most important decision for people is 'what does it look like?'" said Robert Rawlinson of Mobileshop.com. He added that phones were now "fashion items" and 3G handsets were lacking the features, such as snap-on cases, common in many 2.5G mobiles. (BBC) I don't have a 3G phone myself and don't use the WAP function much but my hubby connects often from his while on the move and it's very practical. It definitely has a lot to do with connection speed and who wants to look at a tiny Internet page? So you need a bigger size phone and that's somewhat incovenient. What is your experience?

The fact that a great number of people have WAP enabled mobile phones does not necessarily mean that they have any interest in WAP itself. I have a WAP capable mobile, and my previous 2 mobiles had the facility as well, but I have never used WAP and I doubt if I ever will. I have a broadband internet connection and a 19 inch TFT monitor, so the idea of me actually accessing the internet with on my mobile is almost laughable. If you require a high quality mobile then you are certain to get WAP, picture messaging and camera facilities as standard. This is the only reason that I have the option, and do not use any of those features.

Although 3G is already here, many has yet indulge themselves in it. This is mainly due to these reasons: 1. 3G phones are bulky. People wants slim and small handphones and not bulky ones. For 3G to be able to function well, users need a wider screen and this opposes the idea of a smaller and smillerr phones. 2. Pricing. Yes, from what I gather, using 3G cost more, thus why do one need to spend more for a normal conversation? do you really need to look at the other end of the phone? 3. Technology. Yes, 3G is here but the technology is not. You do get jurky images, right? (not too sure about this as I have yet seen someone using 3G infront of me - so, anyone that have used 3G, pls comment here) Lastly, bigger phone = no place to put it and bulky, thus, not in favour of most modern handphone users.

Another point, surfing the internet with 3G phone is just not feasible! The screen is just too small!! Even pda's and palmtops are already having this issue, what more smaller handphones.

Even i got a 3g phone which is heavy and looks clumpsy!! even tough in india 3g technology will only be introduced next year(2007),I'll still use the technology when it is introduced.. the basic reason is most of the pple use their phones just to show off and might not even know all of its functions!! when comes to know the advantages og 3g the looks of the phone become secondary!! Maybe with time people will realize that!!

3G - 3G
this is some more useful information about 3G technology. 3G (or 3-G) is short for third-generation technology. It is used in the context of mobile phone standards. The services associated with 3G provide the ability to transfer simultaneously both voice data (a telephone call) and non-voice data (such as downloading information, exchanging email, and instant messaging). In marketing 3G services, video telephony has often been used as the killer application for 3G.

3G wireless technology represents the convergence of various 2G wireless telecommunications systems into a single uniform global system which includes terrestrial and satellite components in its functioning. 3G or the third-generation wireless refers to near future developments in personal & business wireless technology, especially relating to mobile communications. 3G or The Third Generation will usher in many benefits as roaming capability, broad bandwidth and high speed communication (upwards of 2Mbps). Network operators & telecommunications service providers are embracing the recently adopted global third generation (3G) wireless standards in order to cater to emerging user demands and to offer new services to their customers.3G wireless technology represents a shift from voice-centric services to multimedia-oriented like video, voice, data, fax services. The most interesting & useful aspect of 3G wireless technology is its ability to unify existing cellular standards such as GSM, CDMA and TDMA.

3G mobiles are just coming in India, again it depends on the speed. The 3G service providers should be capable to give high speed access. Not all acivity what we can do on the desktop is possible with a 3g mobile.

my 3g phone n70 - n70
my phone has 3g and had tried its services sometimes. its kind of slow on some days, i guess it depends if there are a lot of people browsing at the same time. but the fees really gets confusing. you have to ask your service provider about these fees before you try it out. you might be surprised when you get your bill

i have a 3g phone, actually one of the first that appear so its big! speking the true , i use the phone as a normal gsm phone, because it saves battery in that mode, i don't know how it is in other countries but here accessing the internet on the mobile is not cheep, and that doesn't help in the objective of getting the users to use this kind of access. but it's a nice alternative to use when we don't have an internet access, and we have a laptop in hands.

its very useful using WAP feature as our cell phone is very handy & it will be helpful in case of emergency. I am not sayin you to use it for commercial purpose but you can use it for your personal usage such as checkin mails..etc so it's very useful & it won't cost you much
