Have you ever seen an animal that has any skills or will protect someone maybe? My dog is a chihuahua and he howls and barks every time the fire alarm goes off. This is a good thing though. If a fire breaks out, the dog is gonna wake everyone up. :) Does your animal do anything like this?

Many pet animals have skills and are helpful to the masters. They are cleverer than men many a times. They need our kindness and care and repay their gratitude.

Producing your own meat for the table is one of the most satisfying aspects of being self sufficient. Knowing that all the animals have had a happy healthy life, is what being self sufficient is all about At the farm, the animals you can specialise with is entirely up to you. You can choose to cover in depth 2 species or have a basic grasp of all the animals you have or may keep in the future. As a small holder you have total responsibility for all the animals in your care and it is so important to understand the nutritional, environmental and behavioural needs of the animals you own. At the farm there will be theoretical sessions with handouts for you to keep as reference for the future. These sessions are designed to be fun and enjoyable with lots of discussion. The information gained will enable you to understand the reasoning behind what we do practically. The practical sessions will improve your confidence and abilities when dealing with the animal species of your choice. We will use realistic simulations to cover aspects of animal care that is out of season such as protecting sheep from blowfly strike, or feather clipping on poultry. This will enable you to have hands on experience which does improve confidence and handling skills. Throughout your stay you will be doing some of the routine tasks to enable you to identify individual animals and their behaviours, status, health or ill health. There will also be time to enjoy the French life style with long leisurely lunches and you may even have an odd cuddle with a furry species.

Our pet dog "Chinna" has the skill to find out snaks in our garden. If he finds a snake or some suspecious creatures, he countinously barks and never let the snake or the other into the house.

I've seen many programs on Animal Planet on animals who save their owners or some others lives. Unfortunately my 4 cats and 1 puppy have not displayed these kinds of traits, yet!

Most dogs will be willing to protect their owner, after all you are their family and the only person they’ve ever really known. As parks are notorious for kids mucking about, when I took my dog a walk one evening, a group of kids were following us, typical kid behavior, attempting to be 'intimading' and falling short. The hair on my dogs back has never been so tense before! When one attempted to approach he 'snapped' at them, barking rather viciously. I'd never actually see him act that way before, when most people approach he's the most loveable dog in the world! Sad fact is, if a dog does bit in that circumstance you'd get sued for all the gold in china and the dog would be at fault. :(
