What's your worse experience with meeting someone off the internet?

I have met some real winners off the net, along with some good friends. I met one guy who spent the entire time we were together at a cafe telling me about his big trade plan with China (not legal) and how he was going to be a millionaire with this plan. And complained the whole time that he had to pay for his kid, child support. Needless to say I left within 30 minutes! lol Another one I met at a restaurant and the man smelled so bad you could smell him from the front. He had no teeth and seriously I would have caught something just sitting down next to him. I said hello, excused myself to the ladies room and never came back! lol

I drove over 80 miles to give some unwanted household items to a person whom I met on the internet. She had given me the impression that she really needed help, so being the sucker that I am for a sob story, I was only too happy to oblige. Since then, she is asking for everything I post on the freebie sites and expects me to make the same journey. I have also since discovered that she has a full time job, she collects desserted wive's allowance and has a live in partner who also has a full time job. She is also ling in government subsidised housing. Now all I get are the moany emails telling me about how financially hard up she is. Will I ever learn!!

I guess the plus side is that, while you were scammed, you also did what was right in your heart and tried to help another human being! I always say that when I'm 'used' by someone, at least I did what I felt was right. THEY will be the ones to pay for the wrong doings in the end. I applaud your kindness, don't let one bad person stop you from using your heart!

You ahve to be pretty careful about Freecycle groups and similar concepts. There are people on there just mining for stuff to resell. Sounds like she really took advantage of your kindess.

Yes, she was scammed. But like you said hockeygal4ever, it will be them that will be on the wrong side on the journey to heaven :) Do not let incidents like those muddle your charity and kindness. I too have been suckered time and time again, but every charitable act have its rewards. Good luck and Godbless to all of you who give and share ;)

Sincerely, I only had an experience of this type and it was not bad of all, therefore it was a “meeting” between members of one old forum of computer science =)

The worst meeting I ever had, was meeting my ex-husbands old friend from high school. Have you ever met someone you disliked immediately? This is how I felt about this person. He was extremely arrogant. He wanted me and my husband to go out with him and meet his family for pizza. I did not want to go, but they pleaded with me and I went. At the pizza place the guy arrogantly ordered pizza and drinks for everyone without asking anyone what they wanted. I felt very uncomfortable. His wife and kids came in and I noticed when he tried to get next to his kids, they wanted nothing to do with them. This increased my feelings of not liking him. Something was definitely not right here. At some point he started arguing with me about something, I don't remember what, but I do remember I got so upset I stated I was going to go home. Of course my husband and this guy pleaded with me to stay, but I was beyond upset and I got up and left. I think I knew the guy was a jerk the minute I met him, his kids not wanting to have anything to do with their dad really sealed it for me. I suspect he was a child abuser. I was a victim as a child myself and I knew something wasn't right.

I have never had enough nerve to meet someone I met online. I'm afraid of the weirdos, I guess. My brother met his wife online, and I know of a lot of people who have met good friends, husbands/wives, or partners online. I'm just behind the times, I guess.

I haven't had any bad experiences mainly because I am very cautious about communicating over the internet. If you wouldn't invite a stranger into your home then don't do it for people on th einternet. They are also strangers.

I have never met anyone I knew online. Always bugged me out for some reason. I have a couple friends that have married people they knew online, and more power to them, but no, just can't bring myself to do it. Wimp? Yes.

I was the "scary internet date" once... at least I think so. It was a blind date, but we had given each other descriptions. And when I made eye contact, the person I thought was her (and who had seemed to be looking around for someone, too) got up and left in a hurry. Ah well. All the people I've actually MET off the internet have been fine, though inevitably either they're attracted to me, OR I'm attracted to them, never both at once. ;P

worst experience I've had so far was when I met a gal who wasn't a gal but rather a fellow lol luckily we never met in person though, I busted him before we arranged to meet just by the way he's phrase stuff. After a few emails back and forth he finally confessed and quit writing me which was good because he kinda freaked me out lol I gave up chatrooms after that lol moved on the adultfriendfinder where I met my wife:p

I have a super friend that lives 1/2 way across the country from me and we've remained friends for 10 years now!!! We met online in a chat area for mothers of twins! So I agree that some good friends can be made!

I never had a bad experience. Luckilly I never met any of the guys I talked to as a kid. Then I'd have tons of horror stories. I've only met one guy off the net, and we waited a few years. He's great, and we are still together.

I have only had one meeting that wasn't just like I thought it would be. Had been talking to this girl in IRC. We were getting to be good friends and it worked out that we were going to an area near her home on a family vacation. My husband and I went to a diner to meet her and husband. We couldn't see ANYONE in the restaurant that looked like the people we were seeking. Eventually they recognized us. Turns out they were using VERY OLD pictures of themselves. Basically she was using her high school picture and she was in her late 30s, and badly aged. After we got over the shock, which took a week or two, we got to be ok friends with this couple and stayed friends until my husband and I were divorced. Other than that, I haven't met with anyone I remotely thought might turn out to be a wierd.

I think my worrst experience was meeting my husbands lover, enen though i was polite to her bearing in mind that my husband was more at fault by telling the girl we were in an open relationship (first i knew of it) It so tore me apart. I havent really been game to meet others i dont really know

Holy cow. That would have knocked me on my butt and I would have in no way been able to be polite. I see you r point of view, that it was his fault for doing the lying and she may have thought the entire situation was fine by you. Nonetheless, I'm not sure I would have had enough self-control to be polite. Are you stil married?
