Just saw a report that a lot of Irish people end up spending around €2000

on Xmas gifts! which equates to about $2600!

Wow! That is a serious amount of cash!!! There is no way I could spend that much because we could not afford to spend that much. What is the cost of living in Ireland? Is it that low that they can afford to spend that much? Or is it that high that they have no other choice but to spend that much? If the cost of living was that high, I would have to start purchasing gifts right after Christmas to get ready for next year...spend a little here and there with the hopes that no one changes their minds about their favorite items.

Well ireland is one of the more expensive countries in the EU, and inflation will hit 6% in 2007 which will be the highest in 6 years. Our electricity charges recently went up 25%! It's really getting ridiculous.

That's alot of money to spend on christmas gifts, they most be very nice people to do that to their families and friends.

Wow, hat is alot. We do spend about $700. We have 3 kids and buy for all of his family.

I hope i NEVER spend that much! It really does vary, some people are more in the $650 - $850
