mailing and typing home,scam?

Some time i wondered for home based job but i do'nt know that they are legitimate or just scam?actually i have a kid,so i can not do full time job,even part time i think it is difficult to manage home,kid and work at a time,so i want any home based job,but on internet there is mailing ,typing,data entry jobs,but in starting they asked for some money,is it scam?
