I also work in the retail business. And yes there are alot of very rude people out there. Seems like winter time or the holiday season just makes them worse. I just keep on smiling at them. And shower them with a little more kidness. Were I work many of the employees want to run and hide from the regular ones that are like that. Me I'll walk over say hi. Ask them how there day is going ect. Many of these people are lonely, and have been hurt badly in there life. And some I dont believe even realize how they have become. Many of these customers are my favorites now. There are some that will not go to any one but me. Not to long ago another employee tried to take one away from my counter. and he actually got hit on the arm and chewed out over it. When this customer, got to me. I whispered in his ear. I think your mom taught you better than that. He shook his head and smiled. On his way out of the store. He stopped and apologized to the other employee. This man is a disabled vet. Who justs need a little love and understanding. Yes I know all of them are not like this. but like my mom always said. You get alot more with honey than you do vinager.

maybe you will feel comfoted knowing that they rae even more rude on thephone where u can´t see the, I work as a supporttechnichian and i get yelled and cursed at several times a day, although i usually just tell them to calm down and if they don´t i will tell them i will hang up - and i will. I do not understand why people feel that it is ok to yell at someone just because they are angry. I hate it!

angel102083, You are not alone in this situation. I've been to a few states and have come across the nice and not so nice people. What I've always taught myself or always kept in my head was that always treat people the way you want to be treated. So no matter how rude they are to you kill them with kindness (at least you will feel better inside).

my dad's close friend also have a petshop. and some customers are rude. they feel like they are always right. but not all are that. it's just not right when customers feel that they have all the rights in the world.

It's not just retail...people are becoming more and more rude in general...I find them everywhere, no matter where I go, or what type of work I do. I think a lot of people have just forgotten that if they want to be treated with respect, then they must treat others with respect. I also think that a lot of people feel that if they are rude and complaining, that they'll get something for nothing....you know, if you complain that the meal was just lousy long enough and loud enough, they may give it to you for free...stuff like that. It's really sad that people can't just be nicer in general.

to many people, those who work in stores are in service and are consequently treated like they imagine a servant should be treated. I think the behaviour of the general public when they enter a retail establishment is disgusting it is almost as if they resent the sales assistant because they resent having to pay money over. I feel the ones who behaiv this way have big social problems that go way behond the store, probably a type of inferiority complex masquerading as over baring arrogence, i know this because i worked in retail for the first ten years of my adult life
