Mountaineering Rescues

I follow climbing expeditions via internet. Many climbers show great internal strength and endurance.Sometimes they take calculated risks.Sometimes, they get caught by surprise. Many go up a mountain knowing the chance of rescue should something happen are minimal.Do you think that a special insurance should be taken by climbers/hikers so that should a rescue be deemed necessary, the cost is better shared than having the general public have to foot the bill?

I,myself have never understood the mountain climbing thing,I'm too afraid of heights! But to each his own.Ireally don't know how cost effective it would really be,can you imagine what kind of rate they would set on something like that?Besides I thought our tax dollars already went for that.I would rather see my taxes go to rescue someone than to support illegal immigrants on welfare, but that's just my opinion.

I do not worry about the heights. What I do love are the views!!I have climbed a few mountains but have never been mountain climbing(in other words, mountains with trails). Someone mentioned the cost was $800,000 for the recent attempt to rescue on Mt. Hood.
