Olestra is healthy but due to the side effects, many people consider it bad. Truth is, if they were more concerned over their fat consumption, they wouldn't consider the side effects bad. The side effects are abdominal cramping and loose stools or diarrhea. What is really great about olestra is that is passes through the digestive system without being absorbed and adds no calories to the diet. So, it is a healthy "fat" that will not add weight or fat to your body. Personally, I love olestra products but they are hard to find since most people won't buy them because of the chance of diarrhea. (I'm an R.N.)

Yeah, When i was dieting I bought wow chips all the time so i wouldn't have to feel left out when others were eating and most time i would full jokes on family that would come visit for them to try a chip and see if they like it and 99% of the time they would and then i tell them it was fat free.. I love the doritos alhtough they still have one gram of fat in them they let me enjoy enjoy them ..umm although i heard from a friend that ate them alot that they made her have anal leakage that what her doctor said was the cause was the Olestra in fat free chips As of this moment i have not had any chips in a few months because i was afraid it would cause me the same damage...I did go and do a search on yahoo about Olestra and it said that there are over 15,000 cases against them for medical reasons...But since your a N.R. maybe you could help me out and maybe get some more information about it so i can start to enjoy eating chips again.....thanks.

LOL..I love this "anal leakage" thing....which is simply when some diarrhea slips out because you don't make it to the bathroom in time after eating something with olestra. It is not permanent damage to your intestine....the anal leakage will end after you stop consuming olestra. Also, the anal leakage is usually in those who over indulge in the product. People who have a problem with olestra should just be sure they enjoy the products at home so they are close to the "conveniences". I ipredict the lawsuit will go nowhere as, to my knowledge, I have never heard of permanent damage from olestra. I am sure people were embarrassed by their rectal slips and, nowadays, people sue over anything. I will research though to see if there was ever permanent damage...just to be sure.

Cool, thanks..Well that was probably her problem cause she joked about being able to eat the whole bag and not have to worry baout fat...But usually tried to make a bag last me a week.. because they are more expensive than other chips.. I have a bag sealer to help keep them fresh.. I never had any problems with the anal thing and maybe she was to afrai to tell the doctor she ate a whole bag...lol.. i don't know lol..well i would aprreciate it if you could come up with any information that you can and i think tomorrow i will go out and buy me a bag of wow chips lol thanks..

It seems if you eat more than a serving of them then you will get cramps and diarea and for those who eat a whole bag medical treatment. because the symptoms multiply fives times worse. Well thanks for replying to my discussion I appreciate it.
