Truely speaking working in shift does not affect health, but you will have to change your daily routine according to the shift. So if it is your night shift then you must sleep in day.Every human should have atleast sleep of 7 hours, no matter it is in day or night. Also you must do exercise for atleast half an hour.If you keep your routine good then there should not be any problem, otherwise it can be a serious one.

I would think possibly it would affect your health if you ain't getting enough sleep yes. Discuss it with your doctor. I do know if you single it can put a damper on you social life for sure. This happened to me when I was younger because I worked till 2am in the morning and slept till I had to go to work the next day. Not sleeping wasn't one of my problems.
