when my friend is in a restaurant he always takes all the sauces and puts them in his pocket to take home and use, he also somethimes takes the cutlery, so you think this is classed as stealing and what do you think i should say to him to get him to stop as he embarases me when we are out and people see him doing it, thanks for anyone help

OF course its Stealing. Sauces etc are barely ok ... at least uve partly paid for it ... but Cutlery is PURE Theft. He could get arrested for it... Try and convince him to stop doing it .. u sure hes not a kleptomaniac?? it neednt be his fault hes doing this!!

If He asks the bearer to get it then it is not an issue or problem. If he is taking it without permission of hotel staff then it is a kind of stealing. Dont scold or make him ashamed of this. try to tell him & make him understand what is unknown efect he is getting due to this.
Tell him that you are getting ashamed due to his act & also tell him that you do not like people watching him without respect.tell him about everything what happens around & convince him
