Parents of Twins--it gets better?!

Mom of twins and three year old - Here I am at the first birthday of my identical twin girls. My 3 yr old daughter is squeezing in on the picture. It's very hard to get a good picture with all the little hands and feet moving!

Hello, I'm new to MyLot.com and am a stay-at-home Mom. I have identical twin girls that are now 15 months old. I also have a 'strong-willed' 3.5 yr old girl and a 15.5 yr old son from my first marriage. I wasn't sure how I was going to get through the first few days at home with the twins, and thanks to a lot of support from family, friends and generous people from my small church I made it! Now the twins are 15 months old and the challenges are changing but certainly things are easier than in the beginning. So if you have twins that are young, hang in there. You are not alone and there is hope and lots of amazing fun discoveries ahead. I'd love to hear from other parents of twins or even other twins with their advice on parenting. Thanks, RuthK247

you need not worry, its not as tough as you think, in india we see women taking care of many small children due to lack of family planning methods, anyways congrats for you kids,,,,,,, and your family for supporting you

Thank you, I do forget how spoiled we Americans tend to be! I do have much abundance in my life and try to remain grateful for all that I do have.

I am the father of a 3-years old boy, I had the same feelings. We plan to have our second child, or maybe twins, next year.

My twins just turned 2 in October and my son just turned 3 in October, so for me it's almost like having triplets! (the twins were the result of birth control, lol). It was a lot harder in the beginning, but now they are all at the stage where they just want to fight and bicker over every single toy and throw temper tantrums. My twins are both extremely strong willed and want to do things THEIR way and not the way mommy tells them to do it! It's a huge patience tester!..but I always make it through day by day!

LOL....twins are great. I have identical twin sons who are now 23 years old. I have to say I disagree with you about things getting better. I found they changed regularly! When they got older the demands were less. No longer did I have to wake in the middle of the night to nurse them. Bath time got easier. I plunked them in the kitchen sink together and that was easier on my back. They were quite a handful. My two older daughters helped somewhat, but they were only 5 and 3. They would fetch diapers and wet wash cloths. It was certainly challenging, but one experience I wouldn't trade for anything.

I am an identical twin, and my mother has always said that having twins was the most fulfilling thing she ever did- not that she had much of a choice though, right? But really- it's a great experience and your children will always have a lifetime best friend and playmate. Make sure they have their own identities though- because they'll share so much- they should at least be their own person and not get super lumped together all the time! Good luck!

I would imagine having twins would be difficult seeing as it is hard just raising one child. But i would say it is good that you have older children so you do have some experience in raising kids and it wont be totally new to you. That would be a nightmare having twins with no experience lol. But hang in there and congratulations on your children!!

I do not have children, but he would love having one, to be able to give love, affection attention, that a mother only can give for its son.

You are Blessed!. Children are Gods gift to parents. And in your case HE doubled your blessing. Dont worry about the responsibility that comes with it because since GOD has given you greater responsibilties, that means that HE can see that you're responsible enough to handle it. The time will come as your twins grow, the load will become lighter and lighter. So Good luck! and GOD Bless!

Hello. I'm a twin (the eldest one). My sister and I are faternal twins. My parents tell me stories of how sneaky and bad we were and we would get into trouble together. We share lots of things till this day. I don't mean just material things but also our emotions and thoughts. Once I felt terribly sad and my sister started to cry out of no reason. When I lost my jacket at my school, my twin lost her hat in her own school at the same time. And there is this one thing that happens too much, we say things at the same time and everyone thinks it is cute. It's annoying but funny. My twin and I are 16 years old and we both know that we are truly blessed. My parents went through alot because of us and we are thankful to them. Remember to try not to treat them as two people in one package. We are our own person. We also still like different things so matching clothes can be a little annoying when teenager years kick in. I'm sure you'll treate your twins with lots of love and care. Just beware of the little sneaky missions they plan at the age of 3!

I am not a twin myself but my brother and sister are twins and I know that my parents had a hand full taking care of them when they were younger. They were always very active and wild and drove my parents crazy sometimes but now they are both great and wonderful adults and doing very well in life. My brother has two kids with his wife and she had another child from a previous marriage. My brother and his family are very happy and have really beautiful children. I love seeing my nephews and niece. Congratulations on your twins. You have very beautiful children.

The beauty of having twins is, after a bit, they are less work than single births. Just be careful NOT to allow the school system to split them up too much. They are a great team and should be allowed to benefit from their circumstances. I have a set of identical twin sons who are now in their early 30's, trust me. Don't let others try to create distance between them. You might have to really get pushy, but its worth it.
