Resolutions for the New Year.

United States
December 25, 2006 11:25am CST
I read a post from another forum of someone that has decided that it is better to set smaller resolutions instead of those that we know most likely will not be followed through. I thought this to be a wonderful idea. Too many times I have made resolutions for the New Year, and not followed them through. This year I will take each month at a time. I will go to Curves at least three times a week. Exercise is healthy for you. Each month I will start a craft project and finish it completely. Each month I will visit family members that I haven't viisted as often as I should. Hold dear your family members as you never know when they will be called home. Set little goals for yourself. Do not set yourself up for failure by setting goals that can be overwhelming and in the end you will give up on them. Have a Happy New Year, filled with love, laughter and good health.

Great advice. We're planning on seeting intentions not resolutions. And we're setting them small so maybe they'll be easier accomplishable. We just haven't decided what our intentions are yet for sure.

This is such a great idea- it really makes a lot of sense. Just like weight loss programs always say, set small goals instead of looking at the big picture. When I think about all of the weight that I want to lose, it can get depressing. I will set a realistic goal each month, along with exercise goals. Instead of saying that I'm going to be on the treadmill for 45 minutes every day,no matter what (which would never happen), I'll say that I'm going to do it 3 times/week; anything more than that will be a bonus. I like this idea a lot! Maybe some resolutions will actually be kept!

My sister has offered to give me her treadmill. Guess she got sick of using it as a clothes rack. It would probably serve the same purpose if it were in my house.

I am QUEEN of setting myself up! LOL I do the same things every year and burn out before January has ended. This year, I am going to do it, that is all there is to it, I'm doing it....*sigh* who am I kidding? Look for my post of "New Years Failure" around the 3rd week of Jan. :-)

I'm going to raise enough money to sponsor a child in a poor country. I plan to use MyLot to generate the requiste amount of money for this plan (80 cents a day). I will probably dontate through World Vision.

Take each day as it comes. Set small goals and increase as time goes on. Good luck to you. Kicking the addiction of nicotine is a difficult one.

it's a good one.... just don't make any resolution that u really find it impossible to do then. anybody can make a good reason for anything he wants to change upon for the year 2007. Good luck!

I tend to make new resolutions whenever I think of them, year round. Right now my big resolution is to get out of debt one way or another--the little one that goes with it is to investigate some online income sites, and to apply for a part time job locally. I guess I call my resolutions goals when I make them, but they are the same thing. I am working toward the first one by changing spending habits, been working on that six months. I like your list of resolutions. Happy New Year

Thank you GG. I am not sure that I will be able to stick to the plan. But, I know that my one resolution to be happy will be a goal that I can do. Life is too short not to be happy.

I agree with your smaller goals idea. I've never been one for New Years Resolutions. I feel like once I decide to do something or set a goal, I might as well start now instead of waiting until January 1st. Why wait? Some people like the idea of a new year and a fresh start. That's fine too!

I have so failed at goals that I have made in the past. This is why I think it a good idea to set smaller goals.

You know that is a great idea. I was wondering what should I do. I normally do for the whole year, but breaking it down monthly is a great idea. I will start a new craft monthly also and finish it rather than having 10 unfinish project. Exercise 2 to 3 times a week, attend church at least 2 sundays per month, read my bible.

Great plan. I hope to do the craft thing too! I am not much of a church goer...I have a phobia of religious gatherings. I have my faith, and it keeps me on the right path.

I think it is good to set resolutions that we can achieve. If I set goals that are beyond reach, it is not that I do not have faith. It is because, I should understand my own limitations. I set goals on what I want to achieve. Right now, my aspiration is to be financially free, so I work towards generating passive income should anything happen to my job. I go to work confident because I know that I have a passive income to tide me if something goes wrong. It also helps me to reach my goal faster. I budget with my monthly salary and do not spend unnceccesarily.
