Kitty in Heat

United States
December 25, 2006 12:31pm CST
Itty came into her first heat a couple of days ago. She is whining up a storm and wants to be held and stroked all day long. We have been extra careful when opening the outside door. She wants to sneak out if she can. I can't wait for her to come out of this. Next month I will take her to the vets to get spayed. I do not want any unwanted kittens running around. Our local humane society offers a certificate fo help pay the cost of the vet fees. I have to apply for it soon.

It's best not to get them spayed while they are in heat. Most vets actually charge more to do so, in fact.

No, not a good idea while in heat. Something about an increase in blood flow, so the vets have more problems with bleeding if they tried to spay during her cycle. Best to wait for her to go out and then get it done.

Get her fixed NOW!! LOL Oh, that's a pain when the females come into heat. All of our cats have been fixed and have their rabies shots. We live out in the country so don't need an explosion in the population. We had a tomcat show up awhile back. He's still pretty wild, but as soon as I can get ahold of him, he'll get fixed too!

I am going to contact our local humane society to see if they have funding available for free.

That's a pain when they're in heat, but I should've clarified to wait until she's out to get it done. :)

One of my cats is just starting in again today! Lord help us! You are right to watch out for the door, or she will find just the right time to make her escape! lol

Make sure she isn't pregnant because the vet won't fix her if she is. Also a vet won' fix her if she is nursing. Just thought you may want to know that.

I grew up in a house of too many mamma kitties. I really promote spay and neutering. Love my kitties enough to do that for them.Good job on your part.

Now THAT is funny, my kitten just came out of her heat spell for the first time, maybe 4 days ago. We think she was born sometime last May. She was a stray we took in. We are going to use tax returns to pay for her to be fixed. I have never had a female cat before, so I didn't know what in the world was wrong with her. She just walked around and meowed this strange way I have never heard her do. It took my mother telling me it was heat. LOL isn't it funny, Mom still exsplaining the birds and bees to me! Soon as I figure out how to load pics, I will put one up for you to see.

Oh my gosh! As a former cat breeder, you have my sympathy. A kitty in heat can be really annoying! LOL.

It is wise that you do this. Too many unwanted animals in the world. I have both of my cats fixed. I have a male and a female. Good luck dear.

I thought I had at least another month before she came into her first heat. But, I guess it can happen sooner.
