I have to agree - any tour won't be very German. The best thing you can do is hop on the train and just pick a city to stop in and explore. The people are so warm and welcoming and history is amazing. I enjoyed Trier as one of the lesser-known touristy places.

The Garmish area is very beautiful. There are several castles that King Ludwig built that is within easy driving distance. And Munich is not far away either. The hightest peak in the German Alps are there. As I'm not sure how long you wish to be in Germany it is hard to advise on a precise tour. Garmish is near the Austrian Border in the German Alps. There is skiing and hiking in the area as well. Check out my profile if you wish to see some pics of the area.

Heidelberg is a wonderful city to explore. The rail system in Germany is excellent. You will be able to find your way around. I suggest getting a guide book with a map. Guesthouses are plenty, and typically very friendly. Spring is the most beautiful time to see here, the whole country comes into bloom with lush vegitation in the countrysides.
