Do you really like fruit?

December 26, 2006 7:55am CST
It's a strange question, I know, but I have come to realize I hate it! It hurts my stomach and tastes terrible. Is it something with the way we are growing it now a days? I am just wondering if there are others like me.

Do you mean that you actually hate all kinds of fruits??! very strange it's the first time I hear someone say that.. most people will at least love a few kinds of fruits as the taste varies a lot, they are not one thing to hate them all, maybe you have some psychological issue with fruits :)) did kids throw them at you in school or something .. lol Me I like most kinds of fruits but there's a few i just hate.

It's very strange to my family and friends. I was so hoping I was not the only one that feels this way, but yes I hate all fruits. It would make more sense if I spent my child hood ducking them as they flew by, but not the case. Now tomato soup, I hate it and it's because I as forced fed it when sick. Just the site makes me ill. THAT is psychological or psycho for short, LOL.

If you are really serious, maybe you should try shock treatment and see how far you can take it :)) Also you should make sure to eat fresh vegetables or take vitamins supplements because fruits are the best source of vitamins for most people.

Well, OK. I didn't quite take you seriously the first time. Sorry! There's a few things that most fruit have in common. One is fructose, so I looked up 'fructose allergy' (probably more 'fructose intolerance' rather than an allergy). There are quite a lot of references and it seems that it manifests with IBS-like symptoms (bloating, cramps, wind and so on). Here is just one site that seemed to be informative about this kind of thing: http://www.hsibaltimore.com/ealerts/ea200110/ea20011029.html but I'd recommend that you do some further research so that you know more about what you might discuss with your doctor. It may not be the fructose, of course, that is causing the problem but some other ingredient in fruit.

Oh I like it when people don't take me seriously, it makes it easier to cover up my mistakes that way! :-) You don't know how interesting that is to me. I tried searching it on the net, but I didn't find anything. I so appreciate the info. you have here and you can bet I am off to read up on it. A thousand thank yous to you!!

Some fruits that I could eat as a child I cannot eat now. But even though I have discovered that glitch, to be perfectly honest, I just love fruit! And as long as I can find a fruit I can eat without any side effects, I will continue to eat them.

Yeah, I know I ate fruit as a child, but it seems the older I got the less I could eat them. I can't find any now that won't upset my stomach or just make me sick.

When I think of that saying I picture people throwing the apples at them, LOL. I have yet to find a fruit I like. I do how ever like and can eat coconut creme pie and not have any problems with that. Otherwise if it contains a fruit, it kills my stomach. Strange isn't it?

Oh, I love fruit. Anything but kewis, coconuts (I think that's a fruit, and mangos..those sorta taste like perfume to me. Certain brands spray crap on the them to keep spiders and stuff away from the fruits, so that somewhat contributes to some fruits tastes..like 'red delicious' apples for example. I usually have to wash and scrub those to get the wax and stuff of before even attempting to take a bite.

I do like fruit - but not all of them. i have discovered that the fruits I mainly like are berries and that might not classifie as a fruit =) But i also like melon and peaches =)

Actually, I prefer vegetables but there are some fruits I like. I LOVE tangerines which have a very short season so I really eat them like crazy in Dec. I also like melons but the rest of it, I don't bother with. I think I like stuff that is in season and hasn't travelled too far to get to me. (NJ or FLA) Otherwise, it really doesn't taste so hot which may be what you're experiencing also.

fruit - bowl of fruit
Yes, I really do like fruit. Mainly I like bananas, grapes and oranges but sometimes I will eat an apple or a pear. It really might be that because no fruit is actually out of seson now because they ship them from all over that your tastebuds are telling you something is different here. I am lucky enough to be able to buy organic fruit for the same sale price as regular fruit so I know that it has not been sprayed and all that fun stuff

I love fruit... all of it really. I don't love how expensive it is though :( So I buy what's in season and freeze things I like (especially berries which are so easy to freeze). But, oddly enough, I just recently stopped being able to eat bananas. I used to love them (even from the time I was a kid when my mom made the greatest peanut butter and banana sandwiches lol). Now, they give me awful stomach pains. I have no idea why... but it's disappointing because they're a great source of potassium, which one of the medications I was taking was very good at sapping out of the body.

I'm sorry it hurts your stomach. Maybe it is the acid you cannot tolerate. I love fruit. Especially strawberries and ripe peaches. I have an ulcer, but the fruit doesn't bother me.
