To give or not to give away.

I found this dog on christmas eve. The first thing I noticed was blood on the pavement. Little droplets all over the street. Then I saw him. A black big dog. He is so pretty but the problem. One: I have no money right now to pay for any medical. He is not neutered. no tags. An anything else that might come up. Two: He bites everything with fabric. This dog opened his mouth big enough to eat my mattris like a sandwich. I know there are ways to break him of this but I dont have the room for him to play. I live in an apartment. Should he stay or should he go? I really cant give what he needs. Ive named him mill house.

My Princess - My son and our dog that we got from the shelter almost 4 years ago.
I would call the local animal shelter and tell them you found this dog on the street and you can't keep him in your apt. Alot of times they will come and get him, treat him and then put him up for adoption, just don't say he chews because then they might say that he's a problem animal. This way they might find him a good home and he might still be a puppy, they say dogs go through "Teething" stages until their 18 months old. I got my dog and cat through a shelter and they have their micro-chip, i believe in saving an animal. Good Luck!

I agree with you that if he goes he needs to go to the shelter. That's where I got my dog I used to have. They can indeed find him a good home. And just to answer the question of the discussion starter, yes I think he should go, you don't seem to have the money or even a backyard for him to play in, you can't save the whole world. Well, good luck!

Thank you so much. I did give him away. It was hard, right now keeping him is not the best thing for him. If I kept him it would have been selfish. I "shopped" around my area to find the best shelter. We settled on one a freind refered. They where patient with him. An very cleen. Had the freind go with me. It was hard.

Yes I can. Its not my dog. I didnt go to a shelter and say "Hey, You are my family member now. I promise to raise you from a puppy and keep you till your old." The person who left him in the park did. I really feel sorry for this dog, but I dont have time for him. I spend alot of time away from home. I would feel horrible if the dog had to spend more the 9 hours alone in a day.

you can also check in with "paws". they are giving free vacinations and free neuter for low income people. this way you can keep your dog. your dog must be very young and needs to chew. get him nice chewing toy.

Thank you for telling me about "Paws". I can spread the word. I didnt keep him, but I found the best shelter I could find. With the least amount of animals. Its in a nice area with lots of houses. So heres hoping he finds a good home with lots of toys.

I agree with your statment on blessings. maybe my blessing to him was to put him on the path to finding a home where someone can love him better. Thanks for the reply

you should get in contact with some animal shelter in your neighbourhood and ask them the best thing to do in this case. It's always sad when the animals are abandoned, but they are so many nowadays, we can't help them all. Most of the animal shelters are overcrowded and the animals live in terrible conditions. I think it's preferable to lie in the streets feeding from the garbage than in those things...

What? This animal was found in a park! Where there are wild bobcats and cyotes. Where they learn from a young age to hunt. The only thing this dog learned to hunt was blankets. He was cold, starved, dehydrated and bleeding. The paws on his feet were so worn down from walking they bleed. Street dogs suffer more than shelter dogs. They are more likely to be hit by cars, abused by people, have heart worms, ticks, lice or the worst of the worst rabies. Unneutered dogs breed more street dogs that hate people. Sorry if this sounds so strong. Thinking of the future between a street dog and a shelter dog. The shelter dog has the possiblity of a brighter future than slowly starving in the street.

it is very difficult when you have to take a decision. you have to think well what can you offer him and what can t. and than decide. a dog can be a very good friend. just that you live in an apartment it doesn t mean that you can t keep him. i had 2 big dog living with me in an 3 room apartment.

Ive known people who have had 3 great danes living with them in an apartment. The dog was very destructive. He tried to pull up my carpet. I live in a rental property my parents own. I could not do that to them. I tried training. but he walked me.

I read you have already taken him to the shelter. I know how hard it must have been. My husband and I used to live on a road to a lake and people were always dumping dogs that is how we got 2 of our dogs. One was a female hound and she barely could walk up the steps to the porch so we gave her food and water and she started fattening up when we learned she was pregnant. Well we kept her and it was really hard to give away the puppies. The funny thing is when we moved to our new home the vet told us to tie up our dogs on chains for the first 24-48 hours to get them used to the new yard so we did and the next day (Day 3) we let them loose and that night she ran off and we couldn't find her we searched most of the next day for her and haven't seen her since. I was crushed I applaude you that you care so much for that little guy there are a lot of people who don't.

My suggestion: Look into a good, no-kill shelter in your area. There he will receive the medical aid and training that he needs. Keeping a large dog in a small apartment is not fair to the dog and will only cause stress to you!

I think you should take him to the animal shelter,so he can be taken care of. Since you dont have any money right now to pay for medical bills, that would be the best place for him to go.

If you really can not take care of him then keep him untill you can find someone who can. Make sure he has a good place to go. If he is a big dog I would think he would have to have a big yard to run in.

since you can't take care of the dog financially, i suggest you give it to someone else or surrender the dog to animal organizations who can take care of the dog. atleast, the dog will find a better place for him to live. a better person to take care of him. i know it will hurt to let the dog go. but it would be nice ifyou'll think of his future.

If you can't find anyone who wants him, I suggest you should try contacting the Humane society. They are listed in the phone book.

If you don´t have the time, money or room to keep the dog, then you shouldn´t no matter how cute he is. he deserves someone that could give him all the attention and care that he needs and sosmetimes love just isn´t enough. i am sure that u have an animalshelter or something around, or maybe just out an add up and some lucky family might take him off your hands and if they are in the same area then u still have the chanse of seeing him!
