Is dancing a sin?

What is your thought on this topic? I got saved in a holiness church around 13. I knew they did not believe in dancing. I wanted to please God, and I didn't dance xcept for what was worship dance in my private moment until I was 19. I don't believe dancing in and of itself is a sin. I believe dancing is a gift from God and should be used to glorify HIM. Please share your thoughts.

I used to think it was a sin because that was how I was raised. However, you can't find anywhere in the Bible where God says it is a sin so I would have to say no, it isn't. King David would dance in worship to God. The psalms often say to praise God with ....and it lists several instruments and often lists dance. I think it is a matter of your heart. Are you dancing to be provocative or are you dancing in worship to God.

I could not agree with you more. That is so true. It's all about the heart! And Yes, David did dance. He praised God so hard once until he came out his clothes(LOL) Now that's worship!!!

Dancing is not a sin. God himself gave us this body to glorify him. Sometime you are moved by the spirit and cannot help but move as it moves you. Dancing is only a sin if you are glorifying somethingelse (dancing in a club) besides God himself bcos God is a jealous God.

Very well stated. It all comes down to when you dance, why do you dance. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks everyone for sharing. For many years, I was encaged as a youngster and not understanding dance. But God did use those years to teach me how to dance in the spirit. It's called lyrical dance which closely resembles ballet. I'm glad that I'm no longer under that bondage and I understand that dancing too is a powerful too to share God's message, to stay in shape and too have fun.

I don't agree with you at all. Dancing is amazing excercise especially for disabled people like me. I'm a certified Danceability (that's dance for people of all abilities) instructor. I can't imagine that God would object to that, whatever anyone's faith, or if the work has has anything to do with faith at all.I also feel that able-bodied people have a right to dance for any reason whenever they want as well.

Hi, Actually, I agree with you that Dancing is a gift from God. I believe you misinterpreted my response. Yes, dancing is a beautiful gift of God. I am happy that you are using your gift to bless individuals with extraordinary abiliies. I've taught children with exceptional needs, and I know that what your doing is powerful. All in all, I believe God created dancing as everything else for His glory.

have you ever seen the movie flashdance? because this topic is a lot like that movie. I don't think dancing is a sin at all. what about it is something that God wouldn't like. and i don't believe that the bible ever outlaws dancing. a lot of different groups have their extreme views about God, but i think that each person should determine what they believe is the right way to respect God and then live that way to the best of their abilities.

I have never had this thought that dancing would be sin. The religions I know wouldn't forbid dance. There are many reasons for dancing: they can be part of a sacred celebration, they can be used for seducing another, for artistic expression, for pure fun of the individual, for a group to be closer to each other, etc. I don't think that the god or the preachers of any religion should forbid dancing.

Dancing was never a SIN. In fact, during the old days, dancing is their form of worshiping GOD. Dancing is our form of expressing our thoughts and imagination. We do worship GOD in our own forms and dancing was never a SIN. We are given talents by GOD and one of these talents is DANCING. So why not use it in the proper way, right?

Well, dancing, as an art, is really subjective. You can please God in your own way. If you think you could please God with your dance, then go for it. I just can't imagine, how do you worship God without dancing? Is it like a conservative church? Can you even clap? What dance step in particular is a sin in your church? Lots of questions. You don't have to answer anyway. Dancing in church of course is quite limited in terms of the step you make. You could interpretative or even a tambourine dance. Well, I hope this made sense.

You can read the bible and there are a lot of scriptures saying that the people were "dancing and praising" in them. Dancing is an expression of the soul weather it be anger or lust.

It's an amazing thing to feel, do it. Just do it!! Right now, you don't even need music...but it helps. hehe Ok, seriously...what are you waiting for?!?! Do it! DO ITTTTT!!! Dance dance dance! Frolic! haha, did you do it? haha I sound like a psycho....but I'm not. Please, do yourself a favor and dance. =]]
