I have a situation where I appear to either be sleeping all the time or always wanting to sleep. It's weird. Even after getting plenty of sleep where I shouldn't be able to sleep anymore...I still manage to fall asleep. Is there anyone else in this situation? What could be the reason behind this? Advice?

Too much sleep is unhealthy unless it is associated with an illness. If you have a serious illness it is often just a side effect of being ill. However if you are healthy you should see a doctor, they may be able to answer your questions and help you out more with your situation.

^ I was just going to say, sleeping a lot is a sign of depression. It happened to me last year, I didn't even want to get out of bed to go to class (resulting in me failing some classes and doing poorly in others). Do you have people you can talk to about your depression? Being around people can help, instead of doing lonely activities. I think doing things alone just makes you feel like getting into bed again.

I feel this same way on the weekends. Saturdays are my days to sleep in. I usually sleep until about 10-10:30am. I only seem to get up then because my kids won't leave me alone any longer. I feel like I could sleep for days! Once I get up and moving around, I feel much better. I believe it is our bodies telling us to slow down and relax. If it's been happening for awhile or you are concerned about it, you should talk to your regular doctor. Maybe there is a medical reason - thyrod for example. If you are in question, don't hesitate to ask questions.

I'm in actually the completely opposite situation. I can never seem to sleep. I feel tired, but when I go to lay down, I wake right up, and I don't get tired again for another couple hours. It's weird and I don't know what to do about it, but oh well.

Don't do it. If you have leisure time you can utilise it with mylot, where we all get benefited by you. So don't waste your time and it is not a serious problem as you think, it is a simple mental setup you got into. Come on, wake up and the mylot community get benefited!

Well first of all I would see your doctor. The more you sleep the less energy you will have.you might think about taking vitamins that might help. The other thing you might have some kind of sleeping sickness where a person falls to sleep without knowing it, untill he wakes up.Did you ever get checked for a diabetic.

I haven't read all the other responses yet, so if you have already read this....you may be getting some sound advice from many. Talk to your doctor. Wanting to sleep all the time can be a sign of some pretty serious conditions. Anemia...or low iron can sometimes cause you to always feel tired. Depression can also make you want to sleep all the time. But also...pregnancy can sometimes be a huge drain on a person's body that the woman can feel drained or tired all the time. There are many other medical conditions that can be related to feeling tired...no eating properly...the point is, it is best to bring this up to a doctor to seek professional help. You never know what could be the cause and it is best left to a professional.

Could you be pregnant? That was my first clue that I was pregnant. I had to drag myself out of bed. I would wake up and go back to sleep and not know it...I never did that before.

That was the great thing about my pregnancies...there were times that I could sleep beyond my normal 4 to 5 hours a night. :) Even times when I could take a nap that lasted longer than an hour! It was great! :)

Yup! Me too. I am now pregnant with my fourth child and no matter how much sleep I get, I just don't want to get out of bed! I also has anemia which can make you tired and have no energy. You should go to your doctor if you are concerned. Chances are you have gotten stressed over something or depressed or or or... you should go to your doctor, it might not be anything at all but it's better to be safe than sorry.

have your iron checked. Also, cut back on ur sugar and caffeine intake. Or sometimes being tired all the time is a sign of pregnancy or depression.

I am thinking that the reason behind this is sickness or stress. Any type of body problem may cause this. For this You have to make your time table for your days.

See your Dr. Not only depression, but it can be releted to medical problems such as diabetes, thyroid problems, a viral infection. There is also Narcolepsy wich is rare but more serious. You may feel sudden uncontrollable urges to sleep, even when around other people, or you suddenly lose control of your muscles and collapse when laughing, angry or excited. Yours doesn't sound that serious, but depression is my downfall. I just don't sleep instead of sleeping too much. you may have to adjust your depression medication, start medication, or change the one you are on. In any case you need to see a Dr. it could be something serious, and not to be overlooked.

I haven't read the hunderds of responses on here yet, but here's my advice :) I read that the More you sleep, the More your body wants to sleep! So if you start to over-sleep, your body starts to feel like it wants to sleep all the time. I have this problem on days off, when there's no reason to get up. On work days however, I find that I can survive and be very active with only 6-7 hours of sleep! I catch up on the weekend and feel great all week. So my advice is to force yourself awake. Set an alarm to go off 8 hours after you sleep, and make yourself wake up no matter how tired you think you are. Soon your body will learn to adjust and learn you are not really in need of more sleep. Additionally, do some quick exercise first thing when you wake up, like 20 jumping jacks. Once your heart starts beating, you will fill so much more energy for the rest of the day. Hope you get less sleep! Never thought I'd say that to a person but in this case it works :)

I also have the problem and I love sleeping and waking up late in the morning. I am not suffering from anything serious. To cheer you up there is good news. Those who sleep more live longer.

I've had similar problems where I end up sleeping way more hours than I am awake for and I never feel energized. Right now, my doctor is looking into Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) - it causes a person to be tired almost all of the time, but there really isn't a well proven cure, most people just have to live with it and try different things to see if it works for them. There is no real test for CFS, basically doctors first try to rule out all other possibilities for the fatigue. There are many other possibilities for your tiredness: depression, low iron, medications, etc. The best thing to do is go to a doctor and start doing some testing so you can hopefully find the cause and then hopefully find a way to start feeling better. It is most helpful if you can take a journal with you where you have kept track of how often and when you sleep and have listed all other symptoms you may have experienced besides the loss of appetite that you may not realize are related, such as headaches, sore muscles, problems with your eyes, confusion, trouble concentrating, etc. Good luck - hope you feel better soon!

I was going to say it could be depression but looked at the post you made and you mentioned you were. It is what happens a way for your body to escape reality. Been there done it.

Its like the more you sleep the more you feel like sleeping and the less you sleep the less sleep you get. Its just like eating food. If for a few days you dont eat well your appetite automatically goes down same applies to sleeping.
