Why is religion so important?

I see lot of people proud of their religions here in myLot and outside myLot. Some people push me to become Christian and made me cry when I told them that Im Buddhast and Im not changing my riligion to Christian, they start telling me that I need to change because I will go to hell if I dont change it. I didnt know what to do. My husgand I stoped and looked at the riding mower other day at this house for sale, the owner came out and start telling us about the mower but than, he changed the subject to the church, god, etc etc. I dont understand why people push and make others to their religion. What is so important about it?

Well am an atheist so siriously i dont believe in one religion or am inclined towards anything but yes i respect every religion!
Religion is important as, it teaches you how to respect something and how to devote yourself to stick to something!
If you are a communist or you are in an area with people with beliefs, if you match their thoughts ofcourse you will be appreciated
So religion is for social as well as mental calmness!
