No underwear: shocking or comfortable?

There's been a recent polemic about celebrities wearing no underwear and having pictures taken of the evidence. These pictures, naturally, ended up on the Internet and elicited fairly extreme responses. Those who saw them were either interested in those celebrities' private anatomy, while other expressed strong disgust. I personally think that it is everyone's choice to wear underwear or not. I know that some people actually find it more comfortable, a bit like sleeping naked instead of wearing PJs or a nightie. (And yes, I sleep naked, if you really wanted to know!) A few years ago, I had the opportunity to wear a kilt the traditional Scottish way -- and you know what that means! I found it actually a bit awkward at first, then pretty comfortable. Therefore, as a man, I perfectly understand that women wearing skirts may feel fine with no underwear on. So what do you think? Male or female, do you prefer wearing underwear or you'd rather go without? Try to explain why whatever your answer is.

I usually like wearing underwear, and especially with a skirt, because you never know when the wind will give everyone a free show. For a while I always went commando, but it is not so good for your pants to do so. Without being too gross, you have to wash your pants more if you don't wear underwear if you are a woman. And I don't like doing laundry, i like to minimize the need as much as possible.

So it's also a question of comfort... the comfort not to have to do the laundry too often! :)

The normal usage of underwear is a personal choice, and I would not presume to judge someone as being right or wrong irrespective of the choice they made. However, in the cases you refer to where celebrities have arrived at parties wearing no underwear and knowing full well that it will be a popular place for photographers, I can only consider this to be blatant exhibitionism. You see these people arrive in low floored sports cars and deliberately alighting slowly from the vehicle, so any suggestion of accidental exposure does not even exist.

It is interesting I never think not wearing underwear to somewhere before. but the question is why not? will it cause any problem?

It most probably won't cause any problem as long as you're the only one aware of the fact. Medically, it's fairly safe too. Let us know if you've tried it and what your impressions were.

Well I was brought up to not only do you always wear your under wear, but they better be clean ones at that! But I think the reason I don't like it is I am a female but I mostly wear jeans, so it just feels nasty to me. I would never think to go in a dress without them, my momma catches me, even if she is 63 I would get the whoopin of my life! However as it pertains to others, I say do what you feel is best. I just don't want to see a peek. They don't refer to that stuff as "uglies" for no reason you know. :-) Wonderful unique question, thanks for posting!

Thanks a lot for your answer. There again, we have evidence that it's all a question of comfort, personal preference... and upbringing!

I wear none, and the clothes I wear are more expensive and better-fitted so it's usually not uncomfortable. True Religion jeans are, by my experience, the most comfortable to wear without underwear. If you do it, though, MAKE SURE you don't get jeans that fall unzipped on their own - I've had that problem before and it ain't good.

I loved the comment about the jeans that unzip spontaneously; I had a great laugh! Yet again, this is an answer that indicates that wearing underwear or not is a personal choice and a question of comfort.

Well wearing underwear is comfortable when u have physical works on hand and not wearing it is better when u wanna feel relaxed and no ot very nominal physical activity is involved. However when mating where a lot of physical activity is advised drop that underwear when u are turned on...

I like the stating-the-obvious of your response concerning what you call 'mating'. That really made me laugh! :)

When it comes down to it, I think if you're going to choose NOT to wear underwear, then wear something to cover up up your private areas, especially when you're a celebrity and you KNOW you're going to get photographed. It's like they WANT to be seen wearing no underwear. One of my friends openly admits that she doesn't wear anything, but when she wears skirts, she wears spankies underneath (spankies for the shorts cheerleaders wear underneath their skirts, FYI).

In general I just want to know, why should we bother about others. If they feel they are not going to wear, why should take it as an issue and talk about a celeb who is not wearning an under garments. I think bothering about other for all these issues are really a waste of time.

I prefer wearing them. I'm not comfortable with my thing dangling there and when I'm aroused is kinda embarassing. In women however if they are comfortable with it, then they do without underwear. Different women, different perspective.

en,interesting discussion! WoW,I have not this kind of experience! A lot of years ago,I had a try to sleed without underwear.Yes,it felt good without any boundage on my body. But I have never had a try not wear underwear in the daytime. I think it is a little awkward. Really awkawrd, even others don't know that you do not wear the underwear. But I wanna have a try in the future. Firstly have a try at home, then when I am used to that, I would do it in the daytime even when I am in the office. Think about that, a little funny! ^_^. But it is really a private issue, and I think no one has the right to criticize it.

I personally think it is the individual's choice. I don't however, think it should be broadcast! As a female, going without underwear is something I was taught to do at night to *air out my parts*, as it were (okay, so I had a conservative Catholic mother who wouldn't use terminology that would actually make sense LOL). Medically, it is actually very beneficial to "go commando" because any bacteria (them that don't actually mingle with natural flora of the body that is) lingering can be properly 'disposed' of. However, there are definitely times when underwear is essential. Like during the hottest days of the summer when thick-trunked people like me don't wish to spontaneously combust from the friction of hot, sweaty legs LOL. Okay, so maybe that was a little too graphic, I apologize. But you get the general point: Commando is good, just don't tell everyone about it, it's not their business!!

That was my point exactly! Do whatever you feel comfortable with, but the rest of the world doesn't need to know about it. Very good answer :)

I think its everone perogative to wear or not to wear underwear. I find it shocking though that pictures of celebs (as well unsuspecting "normal" people) find there way to the newspapers, tabloids and the internet. Thats just plain disgusting. As a male I am fully aware of the medical bebefits of not sleeping with underwear, I personally do not find anything wrong with it!

I always prefer undergarments when I am out of the home because you never know what incident is waiting for you ahead in your way.But while in home I feel comfortable without that and also sleep without any undergarment under my pant

I dont think it is a problem for a male or female not wearing underwear. If that is what they choose to do is just fine.I just seen on the tv the other day that a women should go to bed without underwear so it can air out.To tight of underwear can cause a lot of problems. But one think i agree dont go out like Britney Spears and show it off.

I'm male... and I prefer having my boxers on. Reasons: 1) When I get... excited... well, the bulge in my pants won't show as much. 2) It prevents a certain part of me from getting cold. 3) Other unstated reasons.

1.. You SHOULDN'T ! The excitement is something natural, why to hide it ?? That is even sexy and trying to hide it is somehow as trying to hide that you're blushing ! Women love to see it, and the older ought to not look at that if they dislike it ! Don't think as a little boy that is ashamed that he becomes a male !! 2.. That's right ! Only in bed we shouldn't wear pants under the pajamas, just to be more comfortable. See also my answer below to understand why we need pajamas though. 3.. You're very smart ! :)
